3 Dec ௩ டிசம்பர் 2025, celebrated during the Tamil month of Karthigai. At dawn, the Bharani Deepam was lit inside Arunachaleswarar Temple.

Five lamps are lit symbolising the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, space).

At dusk, the sacred flame was carried to the summit of Annamalai Hill (2,668 ft) and lit in a giant cauldron visible for miles, symbolising Lord Shiva’s infinite light (Jyoti Stambh).

Lakhs of devotees performed girivalam (circumambulation of the hill), lit lamps at home, and chanted hymns, reinforcing the unity of Sanatan tradition.

Despite petitions and safety concerns, the Madras High Court allowed full rituals, with the government deploying 15,000 police for crowd management. No blockade, only security.
