The government frames it as a *“Swadeshi step”* a move to back indigenous tech, reduce reliance on open-source tools, and strengthen digital sovereignty. Zoho, headquartered in Tamil Nadu, now powers the daily communication of lakhs of officials.

Supporters call it a bold endorsement of Indian innovation. Critics caution that before handling Cabinet-level documents, robust encryption and independent audits must be fully in place. The domain names remain the same nic.in and `gov.in`but the hosting has shifted.
