' I don’t even really get many negative comments. Yet, I still fear them. It’s pretty silly.
I know that it taps into some deeply-rooted evolutionary mechanism where I don’t want to be kicked out of the tribe. But the proportion of fear to actual danger is quite exaggerated.
Everyone I’ve ever admired has been on the receiving end of hate from some group of people. Do I really believe I’m going to be the first to avoid any criticism?
If you have an insightful thought, you may fear being corny.
If you’re trying to be funny, you may fear offending people.
If you’re sharing your physical appearance, you may fear being called ugly.
Or narcissistic.
Or receive unwanted creepy messages.
Either way, putting out anything comes with the risk of people saying stuff.
But keeping it all inside comes with the guarantee of emotional constipation.
So I say take the chance. Embarrass yourself.
When confronted with a pithy remark of negativity, I like to imagine saying:
“I’m sorry.. Am I being placed under arrest, officer?”
🚔 Well.. no. 🚔
“Then I’m going to keep going about my day, aren’t I?”

I have definitely missed some number of comments on Substack that I am endeavoring to find again.
A few of them are from a ways back, during the more intensive early stages of some of the rehab I'm doing, and probably from before the rehab started too since it was such an adventure getting me to the point where I could start the rehab.
And I rightly suspect those are not the only ones I missed. 😅
