The First Ten Days of Dhul Ḥijjah
Tamayyuz (being distinct from falsehood and its people)

QUESTION:
The questioner asks: We have a masjid where Friday prayers are held, and the person leading the prayer is someone who supports a certain ideological stance. The masjid is under the administration of Salafis, but this individual has stipulated that he should be allowed to deliver the Khutba. Is it acceptable for him to deliver the Khutba once every three weeks, while the Salafis handle the rest?

Answered by Sheikh Yahya Al-Hajoori, may Allah preserve him (paraphrased):

"I advise my brothers, may Allah preserve them, to avoid half-hearted solutions. For instance, some might suggest sharing spaces such as 'Eid prayer areas or masjids on an alternating basis. Rather, it is better to seek out or establish your own masjid, even if it is smaller or made of humble materials like straw, where you can practice the Sunnah purely. You will find blessings in that.

As for mixing, where one person delivers a khutba one week and another the next; the one who becomes upright with you will be corrupted by them. It will also lead to disagreement, competition, and weakening sincerity. This scenario fosters rivalry and a desire to impress people, undermining sincerity. This approach is neither appropriate nor effective.

A small, distinguished place of worship where you find tranquility, peace of mind, satisfaction with the truth, will carry divine blessings from Allah and Allah's support. Such a masjid will have limited disagreements, more preservation of time, and this small space will be known for its clarity and reliability, free from the influence of falsehood. People will be aware of it and benefit from therefrom.

Masjids that mix ideologies and make compromises do not thrive. Often, the hizbees offer you their masjid, they want you to establish their masjid and put it on the map for them; because Ahlus-Sunnah revitalise masjids with knowledge, prayer, worship, and other righteous activities. Once the masjid thrives, they attempt to assert their control, undermine you, and eventually remove you.

Therefore, it is crucial to maintain distinction. Our Sheikh used to say, may Allāh have mercy on him (I.e. Sheikh Muqbil), "Allah has aided our da'wah through distinction." Similarly, Sheikh Al-Albani emphasised the importance of purification and education.

So purify and be distinct. A mixed approach where your efforts are undermined by others does not constitute a proper da'wah; it produces weak results. Ultimately, you end up planting the seeds while others reap the benefits. As observed in practical terms, one individual causing harm can outweigh the efforts of many reformers. For example, in a block-making factory, a single person can disrupt the work of fifty others with minimal effort. One corrupt person can easily outweigh numerous builders and reformers.

Our Sheikh spoke the truth. We have witnessed the blessings of distinction and clarity."

Beautiful idea. Others were suggesting that we organise an Islamic summer school to cover fundamental books in various sciences, alongside teaching young children to read Arabic, in hope that some of them will be able to read on their own by the end of summer.

However, the classes will be on hold for the moment.

Heeding the advice of Sheikh Saleem Al-Hilali as well as Sheikh Yahya above, we have decided that the best way for our da'wah to thrive is to establish our own masjid - even if it's a small place to start off with. Barakah is from Allah.

Don't stop at كتاب الصلاة and bury your ambitions with باب الجنازة - It gets easier the further you go!

Know that many authors write extensively during the first few chapters of their works. Then, the further they get into the book, the less detailed the explanation gets.

Many students don't stick around to notice this trend because they are overwhelmed by the initial few chapters.
