We've reached 1.2 million users now, and we're still going strong - I was not expecting Marie to ever reach this level of popularity!

I just wanted to give you all friendly reminder that Marie is completely free to use, and that I get no income from it. However, she eats up a lot of my time; hunting for new bugs (they're getting ever so sneaky), maintaining, and providing help in @MarieSupport.

I've decided my new bot is now far enough into development to get released for wider usage; so here it is!

Introducing... @MissRose_bot ! Written in go, fully concurrent, running on a better server and without all the legacy code that was beginning to slow down Marie.

I've implemented most of Marie's best features and optimised them all as much as possible, as well as added a few new useful options; read the /help to find out more!

And of course, join @RoseSupport if you have any bugs/feature requests :)

I've been adding some cool new features to @MissRose_bot recently! For example:

Blacklists are now super powered; you can make them match full, unknown words by using the * sign. This is pretty cool if you're trying to stop people from using links! You can also choose to warn, ban, kick, or mute a user when they use blacklisted words.

I've also added a brand new feature called federations! If you're in charge of multiple groups and want to ban someone in all of them, simply add the groups to the federation, use the /fban command, and they'll be banned from all your chats! Great for protecting against spammers. This is basically like your own, personal gban :)
(note that it's a brand new feature, so there may be a few bugs - join @RoseSupport to report them!)

And of course - read Rose's /help if you want full details!

Marie is currently being attacked by spammers. If you're unhappy with the current performance, I recommend moving to @MissRose_bot instead - she's built to withstand spam, and is in active development, with lots of cool features coming up.

To those who wanted log channels in @MissRose_bot - they're now available for you to use :) as usual, read the /help for information on how to use them, and join @RoseSupport with any bug reports!

Marie seems to be experiencing some biiiig lag - switch to @MissRose_bot for consistent uptime, better speeds, new features and your own custom gbans (via federations!)

Over the last few days, Marie has been performing way below expected standards.
This isn't OK, which really annoys me - and I apologise for it; it sucks seeing a tool you depend on to manage your chats be unreliable and flakey.
So let me get you up to speed on what the situation is.

Marie was never built for hundreds of thousands of users. Originally, I built her for a small group chat of about 600 people. Now, she's at over 2.5 million users, in 24 thousand chats. That's ever so slightly above what I was expecting to deal with.

To those who are well-versed in software engineering, I'm sure you'll be familiar with the concept of scalability. Marie was NOT built to scale - she's built in python, full of database access locks, as well as the GIL stopping any real concurrency from happening.

Over the last few months, I've worked on @MissRose_bot. A brand new bot, written only by me, all in golang - giving her great concurrency. She's been tested and is now at about 600 thousand users; and showing no signs of slowing down. If you're interested in a bot with the same features (and more!) that Marie has, with very similar syntax and some extra ease of use - do go ahead and give her a try! She's in active development, and is easier for me upgrade and improve in the future.
There's also a new support chat for her; @RoseSupport.

I have no plans to discontinue Marie; I know lots of people rely on her for notes and storing data, and they don't mind her being a bit slower than usual. However I do actively encourage you to switch to @MissRose_bot if you can, or if you need the speed!

I'm now gathering translation data for rose in @RoseSupport; head over if you would like to contribute and add your language to the mix!
Big thanks to those who've already offered to kickstart the effort with german and spanish translations :)

Since this means that rose now runs a new string handling mechanism, some bugs may occur; go ahead and report any weird looking strings in @RoseSupport and I'll give them a fix!

And remember; if you want to see rose in a new language, come join us and translate!

For translation's simplicty, I've created a crowdin. Since rose isnt open source, I've only got a 14 day trial, so if youre reaaaally excited about translations, I'd recommend giving it a shot when you have some spare time. I'll give it another look in 14 days time and decide whats necessary based on user feedback.

So yeah - basically, anyone who would like to see rose in their own language can go ahead and translate here :) If your language isn't listed, drop a line in @RoseSupport and I'll add it to the list. If it is listed and already has a bunch of translations that haven't been approved yet, give them a read to double check theyre all correct, and ill upload them asap.

We've got some good progress coming along with translations:
Dutch, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Persian, Portuguese (brazilian), Russian and Thai are all being worked on!

If you can contribute, please do! Even if you don't finish the entire language, you'll be helping get one step closer to an international bot.

A recent report of a DDoS attack via the sed module has led me to disable the use of any sed commands in marie. I wont be re-enabling it in the future, and am not planning on finding a workaround for the issue; i recommend all clone owners disable the module too.
Thanks for the report, Ayra! (He's also the legend that brought Indonesian translations to Rose, so double points to him)

Worth noting that I still recommend using @MissRose_bot over Marie - the experience gained from making Marie has avoided lots of mistakes being replicated in Rose, so she should be a lot faster; I recommend migrating :)

Scaleway are having some (major) issues on their services in amsterdam, which are refusing to connect to the internet... so if rose isnt answering, that'll be why.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but I literally cant do anything about it until scaleway sort their shit out. Sucks to have Rose's perfect record ruined by something I can't control!

Everything looks good again, I think it should be fine, been pretty stable for the last few hours - sorry again for the troubles!

@MissRose_bot has learnt some new languages! She now speaks English, Dutch, Indonesian, Spanish, and Italian.

Drop a line in @RoseSupport after you've updated the translations and I'll go upload them to rose.

Rose now supports german 🇩🇪! I've also refreshed the currently supported languages with the latest crowdin changes, and added tban and tmute as blacklist modes.
