๐Ÿ“ŠStatistics on Number of Bangladeshi intruders killed by BSF during infiltration from 1971 to 2025

Early Period (1972โ€“1999)
โ€ข Killings remained relatively low to moderate.
โ€ข Annual numbers fluctuated between 10โ€“40 deaths, with occasional small spikes.

Major Spike Period (2000โ€“2009)
โ€ข This decade saw the largest surge, averaging 82.8 deaths per year.
โ€ข Key peaks:
โ€ข 155 deaths in 2006
โ€ข 118 deaths in 2007
โ€ข This period coincided with governance under BNPโ€“Jamaat (2001โ€“2006), a time of strained Indiaโ€“Bangladesh relations, increased militant activity, and heightened BSF security responses.

Decline Period (2010โ€“2019)
โ€ข Killings dropped noticeably after 2010.
โ€ข The 2010s averaged 35.7 cases per year.
โ€ข Reduction linked to policies under Sheikh Hasinaโ€™s Awami League, improved bilateral cooperation, and pressure for BSF reform following incidents like the 2011 Felani Khatun killing.

Recent Period (2020โ€“2023)
โ€ข Further decline to an average of 28.5 deaths per year.
โ€ข Due to recent Indo-Bangladesh tensions after Sheikh Hasinaโ€™s ouster in coup
