“It’s a huge honour. To be voted for by your colleagues and competitors from other teams who you play against and then for you for best player is amazing.

"It’s strange that I’m the first one at City given all the good players that have played here before and who are still playing here but it’s nice to represent the club.

"I think it is [the ultimate honour to be nominated by fellow professionals] because you compete against them, they want to win the trophies, they want to be the best. When they vote for you, and it’s everyone who is voting not just a few players, that means you’ve done really well during the season.

Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness ) claims that ‘Real Madrid look at Riyad Mahrez’ with contacts made between the Spanish giants and the Man City winger.

A report in the Daily Telegraph yesterday said that Real ‘will pay 50 per cent of Gareth Bale’s salary to grant his wish to move away from the Bernabeu’.

The Welsh international is due to return to Real following international duty, but he is set for a season on the sidelines if he fails to secure a move away, with Zinedine Zidane deeming him surplus to requirements.

And Foot Mercato continues by saying that if Real can get some of Bale’s salary off their wage bill then they could move for Mahrez.
