Matthijs de Ligt has undergone successful surgery to adress a back injury, say Manchester United.

They say De Ligt will begin a new phase of his recovery and is expected to return for United in the early stages of the 2026/27 season.

Manchester United updates via David Ornstein on NBC Sports:

- Casemiro will be leaving the club this summer, possibly Ugarte too - possibility of one or two players may be coming in for that area of the field.

- Elliot Anderson remains a key target but it remains to be seen if Man United can land him, this is due to valuation from Nottingham Forest & rivalry from Man City - Forest intend to keep all key players this summer.

- Tchouameni is one to keep an eye on. The forward left position is one United want to strengthen with Rashford potentially leaving and Sancho leaving.

- De Ligt’s surgery went well, the CB position is not the forefront of agendas at this time. If someone was to leave then it may be looked at so they can be replaced.

- This summer is not expected to be one of ‘lavish spending’ - Man United will continue to be prudent, diligent & measured this summer.
