As per the official information available with EXCELSIOR, lists of 32 areas for transformation as Tourist Villages have been submitted to the concerned authorities by the Deputy Commissioners of five districts of Jammu region. However, not even a single area has been identified for the purpose by the Deputy Commissioners of remaining five districts—Kathua, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Reasi and Ramban.
As far as Jammu district is concerned, Daskal Ambrain, Gharana, Jhajjar Kotli, Mathuar and Surinsar have been identified for development as Tourist Village while as in Doda district such areas are Batote, Dhara, Khellani, Lanchar, Mounda, Noorihanga and Thanala.
Similarly, Arai, Behramgala, Dogrian, Loran, Mendhar, Nangali, Rajpura, Sakhimaidan/Chajjla and Sallonia/Sawjian in Poonch district have been identified for development as Tourist Villages while as such areas in Samba are Chamliyal, Ghagwal, Mahoregarh, Nud, Purmandal and Utterbehni. In Udhampur, such areas are Basantgarh, Chulna, Dudu, Lehar and Inch, Mantalai and Pachound.

As per the official statement issued here, the Surajkund Mela has been a big hit with respect to the handicrafts exhibition and this year the United Kingdom is joining as a Partner Nation for the event.

Braving arthritis, a Bengaluru woman created a record of sorts by trekking to 50 high-altitude lakes, located about 10,000 feet above sea level, in Kashmir within a span of four months, earning the sobriquet of 'Alpine Girl'.
Probably the first female to trek to these high-altitude lakes, Namratha Nandish, who stays in the Bengaluru's Bellandur area, started with Tulian Lake, which is sandwiched between the Pir Panjal and the Zanskar mountain ranges in South Kashmir's Pahalgam area, and concluded with Shilsar Lake in the higher reaches of the Anantnag-Kishtwar area.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday between the University of Kashmir and the Srinagar headquartered 15 corps of the army to provide different courses to soldiers serving in Kashmir.
The MoU, the first of its kind, was signed by Talat Ahmad, vice chancellor of University of Kashmir and Lt. General, D.P. Pandey, GoC of 15 corps.
A defence ministry statement said, "As envisaged in the MoU, the soldiers of Indian Army posted in Kashmir, will be able to seek admission to various courses being offered by the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir.
"The type of courses being made available to the Army personnel range from six months Certificate Courses to one year Diploma Courses and two years Post Graduate Courses. A total of 18 courses are presently available for enrolment by the Army personnel, which will be increased in due course of time."
