The chip unveiled on 4 December, called Condor, has 1,121 superconducting qubits arranged in a honeycomb pattern.
But in recent months, physicists have grown excited about an alternative error-correction scheme called quantum low-density parity check (qLDPC). It promises to cut that number by a factor of 10 or more, according to a preprint by IBM researchers1. The company says it will now focus on building chips designed to hold a few qLDPC-corrected qubits in just 400 or so physical qubits, and then networking those chips together.

has been in development for a while. There are very nefarious persons within the upper echelons that already have access to it. Now, obviously, they're not the OG, but they do have access to it. And they can annihilate traditional digital computers, no matter how asymmetrical your cryptography is, public key cryptography is very easy to break. It has been done from you know, from the 90's. People say that to crack, you know, a current public key encryption, it would take a quantum computer, I don't know 40,000 Perfect qubits. And, or many more, right? And Google said that they had an imperfect 70 qubit computer, right? That was, I think, four or five years ago. 72 qubits in just one year. That's it. But we're already in Estonia, in Estonia, creating antivirus firewalls, for quantum computers. I hope you are listening to me carefully on this."
