This is what i've found so far.

He was born September 2, 1996, in Afghanistan. For eleven straight years he worked as a Field Coordinator for the International Rescue Committee in Khost Province. One of the roughest corners of the country.

His LinkedIn is still up: normal aid-worker posts, pictures with colleagues, condolences when teammates died. Nothing that would raise an eyebrow in a war zone.

September 8, 2021: he boards one of the last evacuation flights out of Kabul under Operation Allies Welcome. The Biden administration had just decided to fly out 124,000 Afghans in two weeks.

Normal vetting was impossible.

DHS, State, and CBP were running biometrics and interviews in transit camps in Qatar and Spain, but the Government Accountability Office later confirmed that 20–30 % of the evacuees – tens of thousands of people left those camps with incomplete or missing security files.

Lakanwal was one of them.
