One Polyxo was an Egyptian river nymph. She was the daughter of Nilus, the god of the Nile River. She married Danaus (whose name means "Sleeper"), the son of the mythical Egyptian king Belus. She gave birth to twelve of Danaus' fifty daughters, known as the Danaides. These fifty young women were betrothed to the fifty sons of Danaus' twin brother, Aegyptus. Not wishing to marry their cousins, the Danaides all stabbed their husbands to death on their wedding nights, with the exception of Hypermnestra, who married Lynceus.
Another Polyxo was one of the Hyades. The Hyades, or "Rainy Ones", were a sisterhood of rain-inducing nymphs. Daughters of the Titan Atlas and the Oceanid Aethra, they were the half-sisters of the Pleiades. In addition to precipitation, the Hyades were associated with the tears of sadness and loss. Legend tells of their beloved brother Hyas, who met an untimely end in the claws of a wild beast. On learning of his death, the seven celestial sisters cried a rainstorm, eventually dying of grief.
This asteroid may give an emotionally expressive nature and an inclination towards becoming swept away by one's moods.
