The two-day Research Symposium conducted from February 24–25, 2026, at Menelik II Medical and Health Science College has successfully concluded, marking an important milestone in the college’s academic and research journey.

The College’s Chief Research, Clinical, and Community Service Director, Dr. Fikrte Woldeselassie (PhD), underlined that the research symposium will become part of the institution’s academic culture in the years to come. She emphasized that strengthening research capacity and promoting evidence-based practice will remain central to the college’s mission.
The concluding remarks were delivered by the College Chief Academic Director, Dereje Derbew(PhD), , who described the symposium as a cornerstone for the college’s future research endeavors. He stated that over the past two days, the college community engaged in insightful presentations and rich discussions that clearly demonstrated the progress and growing strength of its research and development activities. The symposium, he noted, reflects the institution’s firm commitment to advancing healthcare and contributing to the overall health development of the country.

Participants explored innovative clinical approaches, community health studies, and other priority thematic areas. Researchers carefully identified key challenges within the health system and presented practical, evidence-based solutions. The discussions reaffirmed that research is not only about producing academic results, but about creating meaningful impact and improving the lives of the communities we serve.
In his additional remarks, Dereje Derbew(PhD) emphasized that this first symposium has laid a strong foundation for building a sustainable research culture within the college. This event marks the beginning of a sustained and forward-looking journey. He called upon the college community to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, enhance mentorship for young researchers, and focus on problem-solving studies that respond directly to community needs. He further highlighted the importance of translating research findings into practical interventions that can influence policy, improve service delivery, and ensure measurable outcomes in public health.

He also reaffirmed the college’s commitment to expanding partnerships with relevant stakeholders and ensuring that future research initiatives are aligned with national and city-level health priorities. The symposium highlighted that the college’s mission extends beyond teaching and learning. As an institution, it remains equally dedicated to strengthening research as a pillar of academic excellence and community service.

Finally, the Chief Academic Director expressed his sincere appreciation to the Director of Clinical Studies and Research, the coordinators, program leaders, researchers, participants, and all academic and administrative staff whose commitment, teamwork, and dedication made the research symposium a great success. He acknowledged that the achievement of this milestone was the result of collective effort and strong institutional collaboration.
