Research Symposium Opens at Menelik II Medical and Health Science College!

The event has brought together academic staff, students, and health professionals to highlight ongoing scholarly work and strengthen institutional research engagement. The symposium features two major components: presentations of small-scale research projects conducted within the college and collaborative research initiatives carried out in partnership with the Addis Ababa Health Bureau.

In her opening address, Dr. Fikrte Woldeselassie (PhD), Chief Research, Clinical, and Community Service Director, described the symposium as a clear reflection of the college’s growing research culture and strong commitment to academic excellence. She emphasized that research is not merely a requirement for academic promotion, but a professional and social responsibility.
“As a health science institution, we must generate evidence that improves decision-making and enhances the quality of health services in our community,” she stated.

Dr. Fikrte noted that the small-scale research projects presented at the symposium demonstrate the active engagement and dedication of researchers in addressing local health challenges. She further stressed that collaborative research with the Addis Ababa Health Bureau ensures that studies are aligned with real community needs and health system priorities. She concluded by encouraging continuous innovation, adherence to ethical research standards, and strengthened partnerships to ensure that research findings translate into practical solutions that improve patient care and public health services.

Key remarks were delivered by Ato Alemu Daniel, Chief Executive Director of Menelik II Medical and Health Science College. He commended the Research Office and researchers for their dedication in organizing the symposium and advancing the institution’s research agenda. He highlighted the college’s consistent efforts to institutionalize evidence-based research as a cornerstone of its academic and community service missions, noting that research activities are increasingly aligned with national and city-level health priorities.

Ato Alemu underscored the strategic importance of the college’s collaboration with the Addis Ababa Health Bureau, stating that such partnerships are integral to the institution’s vision of conducting problem-solving research within Addis Ababa City Administration. He explained that future collaborative research will focus on carefully selected thematic areas aimed at addressing the pressing needs of the community.
“Our research must directly respond to the urgent needs of our society and contribute to measurable improvements in public health services,” he remarked.
The symposium stands as a testament to the college’s continued commitment to research excellence, innovation, and meaningful community engagement through evidence-based practice and strategic collaboration.
He further reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to expanding collaborative research initiatives, strengthening institutional capacity, and fostering a culture of inquiry and innovation. He concluded by encouraging researchers and students to remain dedicated to producing high-quality, impactful studies that serve both the community and the nation.
