The English Language Improvement Program (ELIP), conducted from December 19 to February 13, 2026, has been successfully concluded at Menelik II Medical and Health Science College, marking a major advancement in strengthening instructional quality and global academic engagement.

The opening session featured a keynote address by Chief Academic Director Dereje Derbew (PhD), who underscored the strategic importance of enhancing English proficiency to elevate teaching effectiveness, research capacity, and international collaboration. He emphasized that strengthening language competence among faculty members is fundamental to advancing institutional excellence and positioning the College within the global academic community.

In addition, Academic Staff Affairs Directorate Nigussu Ayalew praised participants for their dedication and active engagement. He highlighted the importance of continuous professional development in maintaining academic excellence and noted that improved English proficiency strengthens teaching, research, and scholarly communication.

The program engaged academic staff from all disciplines, each of whom successfully fulfilled the training requirements and received certification. In total, 26 academic staff members completed 128 hours of intensive instruction designed to enhance communication, pedagogical expertise, and professional competencies essential for high-quality higher education delivery.
The structured training modules included:

• English and 21st Century Skills – 16 hours
• Digital Technology for Academic Practice – 16 hours

During the closing ceremony, Chief Executive Director Alemu Daniel highlighted that the program equips faculty members with practical methodologies for effective instruction while reinforcing their responsibility as academic professionals. He noted that ELIP represents a long-term institutional strategy to cultivate educators who demonstrate strong English proficiency, enhance student learning outcomes, and meet national higher education standards. The initiative also lays a foundation for advancing the Higher Diploma Program (HDP) in alignment with national quality frameworks.

Certificates were formally presented by Chief Executive Director Alemu Daniel, Chief Research, Clinical and Community Service Director Fikrte Woldeselassie(PhD), and Chief Academic Director Dereje Derbew (PhD), recognizing the dedication and achievement of the participants.
