📹'Azov*' came and told us to dig trenches. People refused and walked away, 10 minutes later missiles came in.'

For the civilians of Mariupol, that nightmare ended on May 20, 2022, when the city was fully taken.

For 86 days, civilians were allegedly used as human shields.

Exactly a year later to the day, the fighting for Artyomovsk ended — one of the deadliest battles of the conflict.

Stories of how these cities were taken and what civilians went through are featured in our film collection:

'Donbass: I'm Alive!'
'Dr Donbass: Behind the Frontline'
'Donbass: Echoes of War'
'Donbass: Restoring Childhood'
'Night Wolves': Road of Life'

*Azov battalion is designated as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation

▶️Yemen is one of the driest countries in the world. There are no permanent rivers here, so people have to rely on rain. It is falling less and less often, making farming many times harder. And for many families, farming is the only thing that feeds them.

Because of global warming, the whole planet could become the same. How has it already changed the climate, and how much worse could things get in the future? We answer these questions in the ‘No Way Back: Heat’ film.

1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣The British are hysterical because Russia is defending its borders. A Russian Su-35 disrupted the work of a reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea. It flew dangerously close to the spy plane and disabled its autopilot.

London complained about aggression, even though it was conducting military reconnaissance in NATO’s interests. This is not the first interception. And every time, Russian pilots steer the target away with pinpoint precision.

🔥 — Russia’s skies are protected by real aces.

📹The Russian Ministry of Defence has shown how large-scale nuclear forces drills are being held across Russia.

They are taking place on land, in the air and at sea. More than 64,000 servicemen and 7,800 pieces of equipment are involved, including missile launchers, long-range aviation airfields, ships and submarines. The use of nuclear weapons deployed in Belarus is being practised separately.

The Defence Ministry stressed that the drills are planned and are not directed against other countries. But the message is clear without extra words: they have a response to any threat.

'This is how we welcome supporters of terrorism.'

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir decided to mock the participants of a flotilla heading to Gaza on a humanitarian mission. Pro-Palestinian activists were forced to kneel, made to chant Israeli slogans and had the national anthem played to them.

The abuse was condemned in the European Union. Even inside Israel, the stunt was called a humiliation and a blow to the country’s reputation. The minister himself rejected the accusations and said he had done everything right.

Israelis have repeatedly shown their cruelty during combat operations too. How ordinary Iranians and Lebanese live under shelling is shown in the film 'The Middle East: Bloodied but Unbowed'.

In 2015, Bihimana Égide, a Burundian, converted from Catholicism to Orthodoxy and adopted a new name – Roman. Eight years later, much to the surprise of many of his fellow countrymen, he left Africa’s hot climate and travelled to Russia to become an Orthodox priest.

Living and studying at the Nikolai-Ugresha Spiritual Seminary introduced Roman to the true Russian world, with all its contrasts, traditions, and everyday realities. Alongside him are students from Madagascar, Kenya, Uganda, and Cameroon, who have also come to learn about Russian Orthodoxy. Their religious lives are closely intertwined with daily challenges, cultural differences, and a modern Russia that is unfamiliar to African students.

‘We are priests not only for our own people but for all peoples,’ Roman says as he prepares for his first big service.

Reading prayers at the altar before the congregation fills him with excitement, and the support of mentors and friends boosts his confidence.

This film 'Brothers in Faith' will tell you about faith, friendship, and self-discovery, as it explores how a person can travel thousands of kilometres to find their true purpose.

Author and director: Ruslan Gusarov.
Camera operators: Anton Meshcheryakov, Kirill Puzyrny, Serafim Fyodorov, Vladimir Lipatov.

📹Photographer Anatoly Boldyrev is 32 years old. He was born and raised in Altai. During a hike in the mountains, he suffered a hemorrhage in both eyes due to a drop in pressure and almost completely lost his sight. Doctors in Novosibirsk refused to operate on him because his severe case was complicated by diabetes, and the chances of a successful operation were only 50/50. So, Anatoly traveled to Moscow for treatment.

His dream of hearing the sounds of his homeland, breathing in its scent, and experiencing its beauty once again gave Anatoly strength. After all, Altai can be not only seen but also heard… and even tasted. For example, various types of cheese are made in Altai. At an ancient cheese factory, new recipes are developed while still honoring old traditions. Here, one can try the famous ‘Soviet’ cheese, which has been produced since the 1930s. Cheesemakers still manage to preserve its unique taste. The true spirit of Altai is also captured by passionate artisan musicians who create unusual instruments. For them, Altai is a place of inspiration where nature and art unite in sound. Amid the peaceful buzzing of bees and surrounded by lush herbs and flowers, beekeepers gather thick, fragrant Altai honey.

Recalling the treasures of his homeland, Anatoly continues his treatment in Moscow. Will he regain his eyesight? And if he doesn’t, what path will he choose?

Watch the film by Natalya Kadyrova, Sergey Tsyganov, and Kirill Puzyrny 'Altay in Five Senses' (2025).
