They presented their program to the voters in swimsuits and swimming trunks, and at the same time they sweated together. This is how the politicians tried to get closer to the people.

There are currently nearly nine million African refugees, and this number is only growing. One of many reasons for this phenomenon is war. Residents of Mali, Sudan, and Eritrea risk their lives to flee conflicts, illegally boarding ships in the hope of crossing the Mediterranean Sea and reaching Europe.

Some refugees fall for promises of a better life and are willing to give up all their savings just to settle in a new country but often become victims of fraudsters. These unfortunate individuals find themselves left without documents and are coerced into forced labour.
Another reason for migration is climate change. For example, Lake Chad has shrunk by 70 % over the past 30 years. Consequently, local fishermen and farmers there are losing their source of income and must seek opportunities in other countries.

What other factors compel some Africans to leave their home continent? And what needs to be done so that they no longer have to search for a new place to live and build a family? Watch part 117 of the project 'Lumumba's Africa' — 'Africa and Refugees: External'.

❄️ Snow for sale. In Afghanistan, enterprising residents have started selling snow from mountainous areas. The trade is brisk. A small package costs the buyer about 20 afghanis, which is 25 rubles. It is used to cool drinks and food, prepare ice cream, or simply escape from the heat.

This year Kamchatka could share such a valuable winter resource with the Afghans.

Exactly 195 years ago, the first largest bank robbery in the country's history took place in the United States. At that time, robbers stole a huge sum of $245,000 from the City Bank of New York. In terms of the current exchange rate, that would be approximately $8.9 million.

Since then, there have been several large-scale thefts in America. Some of these heists were so audacious that they became the basis for Hollywood films. Our video tells the story of the most high-profile robberies in the USA.

In the late 19th century, colonisers drew the borders of African countries completely disregarding the natural settlement patterns of native tribes. As a result, the same tribe could find itself inhabiting two different countries, which often led to conflict.

When African countries began to gain independence, it was decided to leave the colonial borders alone in order to avoid provoking even greater unrest. However, this had the opposite effect — conflicts not only continued but actually intensified.

The confusion surrounding borders and the ensuing chaos created yet another issue: mass migration within countries.
However, these people found no help in their new locations, as they were not officially considered refugees because they had not crossed a border. It was only in 2012 that a convention was adopted obliging countries to protect the rights of internally displaced persons.

According to Professor Lumumba, leaders need to address the essence of the problem and resolve ethnic conflicts if they are to reduce the number of refugees or at least prevent it from growing. Watch part 118 of the project 'Lumumba's Africa' — 'Africa and Refugees: Internal'.

Neurosurgeons worked in the left temporal lobe, where speech centers are located. One wrong move could have cost him his ability to speak. The team used an awake craniotomy, guided entirely by the patient’s speech.
