The Big Picture: Altcoin Market, May 10, 2026

Overall market: Total crypto market cap sits at $2.69 trillion, up just 0.17% on the day, with 24h volume at $60.99B. The total altcoin market cap, excluding Bitcoin, is around $1.06 trillion.
Bitcoin is still king: BTC dominance hit 60.3% - the highest point in 2026. Driven by institutional ETF inflows and capital fleeing underperforming altcoins. That's the main story suppressing a broader altcoin rally.

Altcoin Season Index: 35 - firmly Bitcoin Season. The index needs to push above 75 for a true altcoin season classification. Gains right now are concentrated in a selective tier of top-performing assets, not the broad market.

SOL up ~10% on the week, trading around $92
Chainlink (LINK) up ~12.6% on the week, around $10.37
SUI up ~25%+ on the week
BNB up ~4.6% on the week around $647
XRP up ~1.9% on the week, around $1.42 - steady but not aggressive

The key signal to watch: On-chain data shows the 30-day moving average of altcoin trading volume has now climbed past its 365-day moving average. A metric analysts say could confirm a broader altcoin rally is underway, especially if ETH holds up. ETH is currently at around $2,329, up ~1% on the day. CryptBull

Bottom line: It's a selective market. A few coins are running hard (SUI, ADA, SOL, LINK), but the majority of altcoins are still lagging BTC. The pattern on long-term charts mirrors 2017 and 2021 setups that preceded massive altcoin rallies. The index hasn't confirmed it yet. The rotation is building slowly, not yet exploding. I get a cold telegram DM asking me if I'm interested to work with Winklevoss Capital, of course I'm interested but I'm also cautious, so I ask what it's about

They say they want someone to lead all their socials, it all checks out, the base salary they talk about makes sense and is very attractive

But just in case, I ask to get an email from their official domain @Winklevosscapital.com
I was surprised when they obliged

When I received the email, I didn't find it suspicious at first, so I took a screenshot and asked Claude if it checks out, to which he cross referenced with the official domain, and said they're missing an S. And that's where we got them

I told them they're missing an S, to see what they'll reply...

And I got blocked 🤣

That's it. Nothing further to add. Could've ended up badly. Since I triple checked and cross referenced everything, they moved on.
