Very informative session by Dr. Tahir Shamsi
( Renowened Haematologist in Pakistan )

A few points to highlight that we should know.

1) A covid recovered patient after 14 days of recovery can donate plasma every 2 weeks for upto 4 times.

2) Blood groups should match. e.g donor and recipient should have same blood groups A-A , B-B , O-O. Positive or negatives do not matter.

3) Antibody titers should be 1:160 minimum to donate.

4) A person with IgG positive/reactive should have a PCR negative to donate. Positive PCR and reactive antibodies person should wait for PCR to get negative to donate.

5) Most important which patient should preferably be given plasma therapy.
-Someone who has breathing difficulties.
-Oxygen saturation below 92/93.
-Someone who has 30% lungs infiltration due to COVID.

6) How successful have the plasma clinical trials been so far?

-If we talk about the 150 patients who have been given plasma therapy and were bound to progress to a ventilator, 130 avoided ventilator and out of those 130- 80% have been discharged and fully recovered. So the success rate is much more!
