An encouragement to single mothers!
..
It was just before Jesus was crucified.
..
He was going to Jerusalem for what we
call the Triumphal Entry.
..
The crowds were going to celebrate Him
and shout Hosanna.
And "Blessed is He who comes in the Name
of the Lord".
..
.
Jesus chose some very interesting transport.
..
He did not select an elegant horse.
Or even a decorated camel.
..
Jesus chose a donkey.
..
Not just a donkey ...
..
A Mama Donkey.
..
Not just a Mama Donkey .
..
But a Mama Donkey AND it's COLT.
..
A Colt is the young one of a donkey.
..
It's either a filly (daughter) or a foal (son).
..
In Jesus' case it was a foal.
..
A son.
..
A son for the Son.
..
.
The Messiah's transport to Jerusalem:
A Donkey and it's Colt.
.
Jesus, it appears, was indentifying
with single mothers.
.
He sent two disciples to fetch
not just the colt, but to bring
both the Colt and it's Mama.
.
Matthew 21:3
"The Lord has need of THEM"
..
The Lord needs THEM!
..
Notice "them".
..
.
Perhaps He was appreciating Mama.
..
All the work she had done for the colt.
..
Mothering, caring, nurturing, fostering.
..
Don't just bring the Colt. Bring Mama.
..
.
Not only that but I need both of them.
..
It's interesting to read that the disciples
put their clothes on both Mama and Colt!
..
Verse 7 "put on THEM their CLOTHES"
..
The other Gospels report that the disciples
put their garments on the Colt.
..
But Matthew, a former tax collector, or accountant,
was very keen with numbers and details.
..
He noticed that both animals were clothed.
..
Jesus caused Mama and her Colt to be clothed.
..
They were given clothes!
..
.
A Colt in a coat!
.
Smart for Jesus.
.
..
All Mama's efforts and work was not in vain.
..
Her Colt was honoured.
..
Her work was honoured.
..

It was a great encouragement and achievement
for this single mother.
