Adjectives


1. Adjectives do not take plural forms.
× furnitures are expensives → √ furniture is expensive


2. Use adjective + enough, not enough + adjective.
× enough strong → √ strong enough


3. Adjectives of quantity (much, many, little, few) must be used correctly.
× I have much friends → √ I have many friends


4. Do not confuse few / a few and little / a little.
• few/little = almost none (negative meaning)
• a few/a little = some (positive meaning)
× I have few money → √ I have little money


5. Elder/eldest are only for family members; older/oldest are general.
× She is my older sister → √ She is my elder sister


6. Double comparative is wrong.
× more better → √ better


7. Some adjectives have irregular forms in comparative/superlative.
× gooder → √ better


8. Do not use the with superlatives when speaking in general.
× He is the best in mathematics (if no group is mentioned)
√ He is best at mathematics

Pronouns


1. Avoid double subjects.

2. Use the correct reflexive pronoun.
× He did it hisself. √ He did it himself.


3. Don’t confuse “each other” and “one another.”
each other → two people
one another → more than two
× They all love each other (for many people).
√ They all love one another.


4. Use “who” for people and “which” for things.
× The man which helped me was kind.
√ The man who helped me was kind.


5. Use “that” instead of “who/which” when the clause defines the noun.
√ The book that you gave me is interesting.


6. Use “one” and “ones” correctly.
× I prefer the red one to the blue.
√ I prefer the red one to the blue one.


7. Do not confuse “some” and “any.”
some → in positive sentences
any → in negatives and questions
× I don’t have some money. √ I don’t have any money.


8. Use “both,” “either,” “neither” properly.
both = two together
either = one or the other
neither = not one, not the other
× Neither of books is mine.
√ Neither of the books is mine.

Subject Pronouns
These pronouns come before the verb. They do the action.

Object Pronouns
These pronouns come after the verb or preposition. They receive the action.

• Can you help me?
• I saw him yesterday.
• The teacher gave us homework.

Possessive Adjectives
These pronouns show who owns something and come before a noun.
my, your, his, her, its, our, your, ttheirs

• This is my book.
• That’s her phone.
• Their house is big.

Possessive Pronouns
These pronouns also show ownership, but they replace the noun.
(= no noun after them!)
mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, yours, theirs

• This book is mine.
• Is that car yours?
• The red bag is hers.
