Stop using the wrong tense

๐Ÿค” In English, using the wrong tense can completely change the meaning of a sentence ๐Ÿ“– or even make it confusing or incorrect.
๐Ÿ˜ Imagine saying โŒโ€œDid you went?โ€ instead of โ€œโœ…Did you go?โ€ itโ€™s a small mistake, but it instantly signals poor grammar and weak communication ๐Ÿšซ

โœ‹๐Ÿฝ Weโ€™ve carefully collected 34 common mistakes and organized them into 5 focused lessons. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ Letโ€™s fix your tense mistakes, one smart step at a time.
๐Ÿ“ Lessonยน

1. After "did", don't use past tense. Use base form.

โชโœ˜โซ Did you went to school yesterday?
โชโœ“โซ Did you go to school yesterday?

โชโœ˜โซ I did not went to school yesterday.
โชโœ“โซ I did not go to school yesterday.

โš ๏ธNote: After did, always use the base verb (go, eat, play). Not the past form.

๐Ÿ“” Extra Tip: "Did" already shows past tense, so there's no need to repeat it by using a past verb.
๐Ÿ“†Think of it like this: Saying "Did you went" is like saying "Did you did go" itโ€™s too much!

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
2. After "does", don't use verb with -s. Use base form.

โชโœ˜โซ Does the gardener waters the flowers?
โชโœ“โซ Does the gardener watery the flowers?

โชโœ˜โซ The man doesn't waters the flowers.
โชโœ“โซ The man doesn't water the flowers.

โš ๏ธNote: After does, use the base verb. Don't add -s to the verb.

๐Ÿ“” Extra Tip: "Does" already carries the third person singular form. Adding -s again is like wearing two jackets unnecessary and awkward.
EXโœ”๏ธ Does she play tennis? notโŒ Does she plays tennis?

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
3. After "can", "must", "may", use base verb.

โชโœ˜โซ Ian can speaks English very well.
โชโœ“โซ Ian can speak English very well.

โš ๏ธNote: After modal verbs like can, must, may, shall, will, use the base verb.

๐Ÿ“” Extra Tip: Modal verbs are powerful helpers โ€” they already set the tense and mood. Let the main verb stay simple.
EXโœ”๏ธ She must finish her homework. notโŒ She must finishes her homework.

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
4. Wrong tense after past verb.

โชโœ˜โซ Rachel asked me what I am doing.
โชโœ“โซ Rachel asked me what I was doing.

โš ๏ธNote: If the first verb is in past, the second verb should also be in past.

๐Ÿ“” Extra Tip: Keep the timeline consistent. If the main action happened in the past, the related action should match it.
๐Ÿ˜€Think of it like storytelling donโ€™t mix past and present unless youโ€™re doing it on purpose.

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
5. Use "would" not "will" after past verb.

โชโœ˜โซ He said he will come tomorrow.
โชโœ“โซ He said he would come tomorrow.

โš ๏ธNote: Will changes to would when the first verb is in the past.

๐Ÿ“” Extra Tip: "Would" is the past version of "will". It helps keep the sentence in the same time frame.
EX: โœ”๏ธ She promised she would help. not โŒShe promised she will help.

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
6. Use "might" not "may" after past verb.

โชโœ˜โซ Ailsa told me she may come.
โชโœ“โซ Ailsa told me she might come.

โš ๏ธNote: May changes to might when the first verb is in the past.

๐Ÿ“” Extra Tip: May is for present or future. Might is for past or uncertain future.
๐Ÿ˜€Think of it this way If the conversation happened yesterday, the possibility should sound like it belongs to yesterday too.

Email ุจุฑูŠุฏ ุฅู„ูƒุชุฑูˆู†ูŠ

Email certainly keeps me busy. I never used to write as many letters as I do now. In the good old days before computers, we wrote real letters with paper and envelopes. I wrote one or two letters a week. But now with email, my inbox is never empty. There's always someone mailing me. I would like just one day where I'm free of email. The sad thing is, very few mails I get are interesting. I get loads of spam, junk mail trying to sell me things I don't want. I also get lots of mail from people asking me to do stuff. Do this, do that, reply ASAP. It's too much sometimes. The one good thing about email is that you can get things done quickly. I can email a company in another country and they can mail me back in two minutes.
