โตโน๐Ÿ—ฃ I can't help + (verb-ing)

The word 'can't' is contraction for 'cannot.' Combined with 'help' you are communicating something you are unable to control or having a hard time gaining a grasp for. This can be a physical or mental action.

โž– Here are some examples:

๐Ÿ”‡ I can't help thinking about it๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

๐Ÿ‘ Using phrasal verbs and pronouns correctly

What are Phrasal Verbs?
Phrasal verbs are verbs combined with one or more particles (prepositions or adverbs) that create a new meaning.
โ–ถ๏ธFor example:
โžก๏ธ clean up to tidy or make clean.
โžก๏ธ give away to reveal or donate something.

1โƒฃWith Nouns (Objects):
You can place the object (noun) either before or after the particle.
โญ๏ธ Example:
๐Ÿ”ดYou need to clean it up. (object "it" before the particle "up")
๐Ÿ”ดYou need to clean up the room. (object "the room" after the particle "up")

2โƒฃ With Pronouns:
When the object is a pronoun (like me, him, her, us, them), it must go before the particle.
โญ๏ธExample:
โชโœ“โซ You need to clean it up.
โชโœ˜โซ You need to clean up it.

โชโœ“โซ The noise woke me up.
โชโœ˜โซ The noise woke up me

โฌ†๏ธExamples with Give Away

1. Donโ€™t give the story away.
๐Ÿ“– Donโ€™t reveal the story to someone. This is often used to prevent spoiling a book or movie for others.

2. Donโ€™t give away the story.
๐Ÿ“– Similar to the first, but it emphasizes keeping the story private or not sharing it at all.

๐Ÿ“ Note:
๐ŸŸขUse nouns before or after the particle in phrasal verbs.
๐ŸŸขUse pronouns before the particle in phrasal verbs.

๐Ÿ‘‹ Using Phrasal Verbs Instead of Formal Verbs

1โƒฃ Natural Sounding Phrasal verbs are often more commonly used in everyday conversation, making your English sound more natural and less formal.
2โƒฃ Informality While some phrasal verbs can be informal, many are neutral and widely accepted in both spoken and written English.

๐Ÿซค Common formal verbs vs. their phrasal counterparts!

| Formal Verb | Phrasal Verb | Meaning |
|-------------------|-------------------|----------------------------|
| accelerate | speed up | ุชุณุงุฑุน |
| accumulate | build up | ูŠู†ู…ูŠ |
| calculate | work out | ุญุณุจ |
| cohabit | live together | ูŠุชุนุงูŠุด |
| conceal | cover up | ูŠูƒุชู… |
| decelerate | slow down | ุงุจุทุฃ ุงู„ุณุฑุนุฉ |
| discard | throw away | ูŠู†ุจุฐ |
| emerge | come out | ูŠุจุฑุฒ |
| encounter | come across | ูŠุนุจุฑ |
| enter | come in | ูŠุฏุฎู„ |
| erase | rub out | ูŠู…ุณุญ |
| establish | set up | ุงู†ุดุงุก |
| experience | go through | ู„ุงู‚ู‰ |
| extinguish | put out | ุงุทูุฃ |
| fasten | do up | ุฑุจุท |
| illuminate | light up | ุงุดุนู„ |
| investigate | look into | ูŠุญู‚ู‚ |
| omit | leave out | ุงู‡ู…ู„ |
| participate | join in | ุดุงุฑูƒ |
| postpone | put off | ุฃุฌู„ |
| proceed | go ahead | ูŠุชู‚ุฏู… |
| surrender | give in | ุงุณุชุณู„ู… |
| tolerate | put up with | ุชุญู…ู„ |

โ˜•๏ธ Examples in Sentences

โžก๏ธFormal: You shouldnโ€™t have to tolerate such rudeness.
โžก๏ธ Phrasal: You shouldnโ€™t have to put up with such rudeness.
(Using "put up with" sounds more natural.)

โžก๏ธFormal: I accompanied him to the party.
โžก๏ธPhrasal: I went with him to the party.
(Using "went with" is more conversational.)

๐Ÿ”– Note!

โžก๏ธPhrasal verbs are more common in everyday English and can make your speech sound more natural.
โžก๏ธ Using formal verbs can sound stiff or overly formal in casual conversation.

โœ… Using phrasal verbs can make you sound chill and friendly when you talk.
