Can the Jinn seek knowledge?

📨Answered by Shaykh Abu Amr Abdul-Kareem al-Hajoori:
As for the Shayātīn, then may Allāh protect us from them. Shayātīn seeking knowledge??
As for the Muslim Jinn, then our Shaykh Muqbil رحمه الله has a [tape] where he advises the Jinn from Ahlus-Sunnah. The Shaykh himself [Muqbil] mentions in this lecture that Ibn bāz رحمه الله was approached by a man telling him:
“Tell your companions to place their things with gentleness.” Because some people throw things and there might be [a Jinn] listening [to the lessons and present].
So this is known, that from them are those who seek knowledge with Ahlus-Sunnah.
One day, I was reciting on an ill brother in Dammāj, and he would say:
“I attend the lessons [at the masjid], and I know, and you teach such and such book”. So this is possible.
وَإِذۡ صَرَفۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ نَفَرٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ يَسۡتَمِعُونَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ فَلَمَّا حَضَرُوهُ قَالُوٓاْ أَنصِتُواْۖ
{And (remember) when We sent towards you (Muhammad ﷺ) Nafran (three to ten persons) of the jinns, (quietly) listening to the Quran, when they stood in the presence thereof, they said: "Listen in silence!"}
So there is no harm in this, as from them are righteous:
وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلۡمُسۡلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلۡقَٰسِطُونَۖ
’And of us some are Muslims (who have submitted to Allah, after listening to this Quran), and of us some are Al-Qasitun (disbelievers those who have deviated from the Right Path)
So the righteous ones from amongst them seek knowledge and they benefit themselves. For this reason, al-Aʽmash asked a Jinn:
“Do you have people with you the people of desires?” And he replied saying:
“Yes, and we have found the most evil amongst them being the Rāfidah!”
So amongst them is Ahlus-Sunnah, and amongst them are hizbiyyoon and amongst them are Rawāfidh. What is apparent that there are many Hūthis with them, as they use sorcery, so no one would join them except those that resemble them.

Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh Shaykhuna al-habib
I hope you are well and in the best of health.
We currently have a Telegram channel where we share lessons in English from the students of knowledge. We also share short video clips of scholars on the topic seeking knowledge and other beneficial topics.
My question is Shaykh, Would you advise us to create a YouTube channel in order to expand the reach of these lessons, for those who may not have Telegram, and YouTube generally has a much wider audience? Would you recommend that we establish a YouTube channel?
📨Answer from Shaykh Faysal al-Hashidi:
Wa ‘alaykum as-salāmu wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh.
Yes, I advise you to create a YouTube channel if what is intended is the dissemination of beneficial and reliable knowledge, especially since you publish lessons in English. Broadcasting knowledge across more than one platform broadens the circle of benefit, and it may reach people who do not use Telegram.
However, I advise you regarding a number of matters:
That the content be reliable and sourced from qualified people, and that you publish nothing except what you have verified to be authentic.
That you make the channel dedicated to knowledge and da‘wah, away from disputes and comments that lead to arguments and conflicts.
That you make use of short clips in disseminating beneficial points from the scholars, while preserving their words without excerpting them in a way that changes the meaning.
Do not make having a large number of followers the objective. Rather, the objective should be conveying correct knowledge to those who need it.
If you are able to manage Telegram and YouTube together without this distracting you from seeking knowledge, then combining the two is good.
Platforms are means, and their ruling depends on what is published through them and what results from them. If they are used to disseminate beneficial knowledge and to point people toward goodness, then they are a good means, and they should be utilized for that which benefits the Muslims.

Who is Ustadh Muhammad James Sutton?

Our Ustadh حفظه الله is from America, he is among the senior students of knowledge.
He travelled to Dammaj, Yemen to seek knowledge, he spent around 15 years in Yemen studying under the major scholars of our time such as al-Allamah ash-Shaykh Yahya al-Hajoori & others.
He then went to Saudi where he studied for another 6 years before returning to America to teach.
Ustadh Abu Fajr was asked about him to which he said: “he is known for good, he calls to salafiyyah and he doesn’t call to blind following. He is someone who has good cultivation for his students when teaching them.”
Our Shaykh Abu Rayhaana also spoke well of him.
Ustadh was one of those who inspired me to travel to Yemen to study after hearing about his journey in seeking knowledge.
Some books he has authored:
-50 Hadiths for the softening of the hearts.
- The believers handbook for Qur’aan memorisation.
- 100 Hadiths on the correct beliefs of a Muslim.
