π«Free mix University & workplaceπ«
βͺοΈA questioner says:
"I read a fatwa by Shaykh Ibn βUthaymeen regarding a young man who could only find a mixed-gender school.
The Shaykh said: You must look for a school that does not have mixing.
If you cannot find one and are in need of studying, then read, study, and strive to the best of your ability to avoid immorality and temptation by lowering your gaze, guarding your tongue, not speaking with women, and not walking beside them."
This was from Fatawa Noor βala al-Darb.
However, I personally believe that enrolling in universities where there is gender mixing is not permissible.
I ask whether this ruling applies to women as well, especially since many households in the West rely on dual incomes.
If a woman does not have a degree, and she is unmarried, divorced, or widowed, she may be forced to resort to low-paying jobs many of which allow free gender mixing simply to survive. Avoiding this in the West is very difficult unless one emigrates, which might not be possible.
So is it the same ruling for a Muslim No woman who wants to obtain a degree, even in fields dominated by women like nursing or obstetrics?
π΅Answered by Shaykh Abul YamΔn AdnΔn Al-Masqari:
No β mixing (ikhtilΔαΉ) is haram.
What is haram remains haram
the goal does not justify the means.
β«οΈThe means is sinful from every aspect, and there is no blessing in it neither in the means nor in the end.
"And whoever fears Allaah He will make for him a way out."
What do you think of this Ayah, my brother?
"And whoever fears Allaah He will make for him a way out."
β«οΈForget the common people, the reckless, the tyrants, the foolish, and the people of desires leave them, for they do not listen to evidence.
But you and I, and our sisters and brothers we are commanded:
"Protect yourselves and your families from a Fire."
And Allaah has promised:
And whosoever fears Allaah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allaah, then He will suffice
[Surah At-Talaq, Ayat 2-3]
So let them fear Allaah.
Mixing is haram, haram.
The fatwa of Shaykh Ibn βUthaymeen is not the ultimate proof the real proof is: Allaah said and the Messenger ο·Ί said.
