Strive Throughout the Last Ten NightsโNot Just the Odd Ones!
Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (raแธฅimahullฤh) was asked about the best time to seek Laylatul Qadr. He responded (paraphrasing):
"Laylatul Qadr occurs within the last ten nights of Ramaแธhฤn, as is authentically reported from the Prophet ๏ทบ, who said:
"Seek Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramaแธhฤn." [Reported by Bukhฤri & Muslim on the authority of โฤ'ishah -raแธhiyallฤhu โanhฤ]
In another narration from Bukhฤri, the Prophet ๏ทบ specified:
"Seek Laylatul Qadr on the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramaแธฤn."
There are two ways to determine the odd nights:
Counting from the beginning of Ramaแธฤn โ Laylatul Qadr could fall on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th night.
Counting from the end of Ramaแธฤn โ The Prophet ๏ทบ said:
"Seek Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramaแธฤn: on the night when nine, seven, or five nights remain." [Reported by Bukhฤri on the authority of Ibn Abbฤs -raแธhiyallฤhu โanhumฤ]
According to this method, if Ramaแธฤn has 30 days, Laylatul Qadr may fall on an even night:
- The 22nd night (when 9 remain)
- The 24th night (when 7 remain)
- The 26th night (when 5 remain)
This was the understanding of Abลซ Saโฤซd Al-Khudri (raแธhiyallฤhu โanhu), as narrated in แนขaแธฅฤซแธฅ Muslim.
If Ramaแธhฤn has 29 days, both methods of calculation align.
Given this, a believer should exert themselves in worship throughout all ten nights, not just the odd ones. This was the practice of the Prophet ๏ทบ, as โฤโishah (raแธhiyallฤhu โanhฤ) reported:
"When the last ten nights of Ramaแธฤn began, the Prophet ๏ทบ would tighten his waistcloth (i.e., devote himself fully to worship), spend the nights in worship, and wake his family." [Reported by Bukhฤri & Muslim]

Getting answers to your questions
It seems to be increasingly common for Muslims who do not have access to reliable scholars and students of knowledge to turn to platforms like Chat gpt, YouTube, Reddit, Discord, TikTok, and Instagram in search of answers to their Islamic questions.

"Allaah does not take away the knowledge, by taking it away from (the hearts of) the people, but takes it away by the death of the scholars till when none of the scholars remain, people will take as their leaders ignorant persons who when consulted will give their verdict without knowledge. So they will go astray and will lead the people astray." [Bukhari & Muslim] (Hadeeth translated by Abu Ishaq)
