While the 1990s were a golden era of experimental creativity, the massive success of this one masterpiece arguably trapped subsequent generations in a cycle of imitation, as filmmakers spent two decades desperately chasing the same comedic formula rather than pushing new boundaries. We mistook the film’s unique brilliance for a simple blueprint, inadvertently turning a once vibrant landscape into a vacuum of shallow, repetitive content.
