September in Ethiopia marks the new year—a time of celebration, family, and tradition. Among these, tej (honey wine) and its signature glass, the birille, shine as symbols of heritage.
The exhibition “Neger Be Misale, Tej Be Birille” at the historic Yimtubezina Museum showcased historian Ian Campbell’s remarkable collection of birilles, including pieces once owned by royalty.
More than just beautiful objects, they tell stories of identity, craftsmanship, and time.
