Landmannalaugar is one of Iceland’s most surreal landscapes — a volcanic wonderland known for its rainbow-colored rhyolite mountains and steaming geothermal springs.
The mountains shimmer in shades of red, gold, green, blue, and black, created by minerals in the rhyolite rock that oxidize when exposed to air. This kaleidoscope of colors stretches across lava fields formed during a volcanic eruption around 1477.
