Johanna O'Tea writes,

Solidarity, Compassion…. Heart!?

Hi

i remember you, and us

I am practicing not being invisible.

we exist!

i’m just saying hi to you all

thinking about all the folks who are self- or otherwise labeled as spoonies and ‘addicts’ and ‘mental cases’, and other disabled folks i care about.  we are all also caregivers… who i mostly don’t get to talk to…. here i am for a sec tho.

how much i’m cut off from ppl, bc not driving, bc poverty, bc sleep schedule, bc relational traumas, bc not available to do phone calls, bc geographic distance, bc others too overwhelmed to include me, or it being too complicated, bc rarity of necessary connectivity, bc my time mostly goes to surviving/navigating health care systems (that i shouldn’t be talking to much at all ugh)... bc things have gotten harder… for at least some of us...

i think about the potential for more safety… & leadership & skills & attunement… in our group bodies….  which do exist tho we may not see ourselves as part of a thing…

i think about how hard i’ve worked to have meaningful relationships and show up for people, and how i can’t do all of that anymore even if i want to, not in the same way….

no agenda here really tho

if i knew exactly what to do about it rn, i’d be doing that instead

i'm curious how much ppl are struggling, who is succeeding (especially in recovery), if anyone, and whether ppl can be honest about those things to their communities

i ponder:

what if….
we were able to organize more?  as individuals navigating illness/oppression/spiritual challenge, AND-OR as communities navigating that + each other….

pondering:
i have land access… it’s a huge deal.
I think about selling…. bc i’m isolated here 95% of the time and i mainly interact in person with ppl paid to help me… who are largely failing to help me meet ongoing and recovery needs, thru no personal fault…  i won’t give up anytime soon…. tho i experience (negative/horrible stuff) way too much….

how am i surviving? sometimes i’m not sure.

what is consistently helpful, strengthening, nourishing….
being on the land
herbal brews
caring for critters and plants and my space
having things to tend like occasional tea orders and my gardens
appreciating weather
intuitive public & private media
fucking cancelled podcast
ecstatic dance online weekly
soma yoga practice
samaneri jayasera
me talking with the Mystery
lovely local and highest quality foods and cooking and eating
staying in contact with visions
(sometimes) knowing what recovery is and can be
(sometimes) singing
there's also lots of things like this:
(too much) watching movies

what there isn’t… is y’all. i don’t have ppl over, i don’t visit them, i don’t reach out… i’m not putting myself out there and that’s for good reasons, but it’s also killing me.  at lot of the barriers are due to the neural injuries i’m living with…

i’m scared to try for certain things, way more than i ever was.

and i’m braver than ever, at the same time….

Intuitive Invisible does recovery co-mentorship (among other things)… it’s worth exploring how each/any of us could invest in (sustainable) collaborations….

its wyrd here.

reach out if you want/can

i love you

' Disastrous and Sublime

Song Notes

Music by Laurence Cole.  This song was inspired by a quote from Barry Lopez, a writer of numerous books on his explorations and deep experience of the wild and natural world, among them Arctic Dreams.  He spoke of the great pleasure and privilege he feels when in the presence of indigenous elders who exemplify the central value of their cultures by “living in the heart of every moment they find themselves in, disastrous and sublime.”   I thought about how it’s only possible to find myself by finding the heart of the moment, which is the felt sense of interconnected and interdependent relatedness with all that is.  The moment is a living reality, with a vast heart that holds all diversity in a unified web of connection and mutual flourishing.  I thought of some words I heard Jungian psychotherapist and author James Hillman speak many years back; “The Self isn’t in community, it is community.”

The phrase, “disastrous and sublime”, seemed appropriate and accurate to my experience of these times, as I navigate between perceptions and feelings of a great unravelling and at the same time an intensified capacity to experience the exquisite piquancy of the still vibrant and miraculously beautiful living world.  So this song asks me to lean into these moments, and slip through to the palpable sense of “all my relations.”

How can this create the world we want?  By healing the break in belonging, and rejoining in our natural birthright to hold sacred witness and be held in sacred witness by All That Is.  From this place, there could be no throwaway people, no throwaway creatures, no throwaway air, no throwaway water, no throwaway mountains, grasslands, oceans, forests, rivers, soils.  Everyone would be seen as so much more than the worst thing they’ve ever done, as Bryan Stevenson says.  There would be justice and mercy, generosity and enough for all. and no decisions and resultant actions would be taken without the paramount consideration of the impact such decisions or actions will have on the coming generations of “all our relations.”  We’d be grown people.

Lyrics
Part One:

Live in the heart of every moment you find, disastrous and sublime.

Part Two:

Lean in.  The veil is thin.  All of life is sacred kin. '

Ecosystems of Inclusive Care & Belonging — is one of our new favorite headings. Maybe you've noticed!

In one of the Phase 1 World That Works For All Global Summit sessions, we asked this question:

"How might we build ecosystems that embrace all — including the most disabled and invisible people — in care, recognition, and belonging?"

The answer isn't simple and it's not one thing. But in the Intuitive Network we've developed collaborative practices that help us significantly improve access and relational contact to include community members we would never hear from or know about otherwise.

Unfolding from that first session into today's first Phase 2 event — also entitled Ecosystems of Inclusive Care & Belonging, and asking that same question — we feel moved to continue these conversations forward in any venue we can achieve.

It's changed our lives to practice together in these ways. We have met people we are deeply grateful to know, and very lucky to get to work with.

As we have seen hardship circumstances affecting more and more individuals, families, and communities, we know how important it is for us to share the ways we use Intuitive toolsets to connect our most severely affected colleagues, loved ones, friends and community members.

We want to honor, tend, and attune with the collective body the way we know we must honor, tend, and attune with the individual body.

We don't want to let a community body deteriorate invisibly, unrecognized by life forms that make up that body.

We want to be collectively embodied, all of us together, in recognition and celebration of one another.

This is a profound nourishment and strength.
