Not because there's anything magical about them. Because that's where large orders cluster.

Institutions place orders at $3,000, $3,050, $3,100. Retail traders put their stops just below and targets just above these levels.

The result is that round numbers act as magnets. Price is drawn to them, often reacts at them and sometimes blasts through them to clear the stops sitting just beyond.

Here's how to use this practically.

When your target is close to a major round number, consider taking partial profit just before it. Don't wait for price to reach exactly $3,100 if there's a wall of orders sitting there.

And when your stop is sitting just below a round number, consider placing it slightly further below. Because stop hunts at round numbers are one of the most common moves in gold.
