Not only … but also

Not only … but also ကို correlative conjunction လို့ ခေါ်ပါတယ်။

correlative conjunction ဆိုတာက both … and, not only … but also, either … or, neither … nor တို့လို အတွဲလိုက်စကားစပ်တွေကို ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ အတွဲလိုက်၊ အစုံလိုက်ရှိလို့ သူတို့ကို paired conjunction လို့လည်း ခေါ်ပါသေးတယ်။ ဒီစကားစပ်တွေက ဟန်ချက်ညီတဲ့ clauses, phrases ဒါမှမဟုတ် words တွေကို ချိတ်ဆက်ပေးပါတယ်။

Not only … but also က မြန်မာလိုဆိုရင် “သာမက … လည်းပဲ” လို့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရပါတယ်။ အခန့်သုံး အင်္ဂလိပ်စာ (formal English) မှာသုံးကြပါတယ်။

ဥပမာလေးတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။
🔹 The war caused not only destruction and death but also generations of hatred between the two communities.
စစ်ပွဲက လူ့အသိုင်းအဝိုင်းနှစ်ခုကြားမှာ ပျက်စီးမှုနဲ့သေကြေမှုကိုသာမက မျိုးဆက်နဲ့ချီတဲ့ အမုန်းတွေကို လည်း ဖြစ်စေတယ်။
🔹 The car not only is economical but also feels good to drive.
ဒီကားက အကုန်အကျသက်သာရုံသာမက မောင်းလို့ကောင်းတယ်လို့လည်း ခံစားရတယ်။

တစ်ခါတစ်လေမှာ also ကို ချန်ထားနိုင်ပါတယ်။

အလေးအနက်ထားချင်တဲ့အခါ not only ကို clause ရဲ့ ရှေ့မှာ သုံးနိုင်တယ်။ အဲဒီလိုမျိုး သုံးတဲ့အခါ subject နဲ့ verb ကို ပြောင်းပြန်ထားပေးရတယ်။ ပုံမှန်ဝါကျဆိုရင် Subject + Verb ပုံစံမဟုတ်လား။ ဒီတော့ ပြောင်းပြန်ထားပေးရတယ်ဆိုတာ Verb + Subject ပုံစံ ရေးရတာကို ပြောတာပါ။

Verb + Subject ရေးတဲ့အခါ အကူကြိယာ (auxiliary verb) သို့မဟုတ် Verb to be ရှိရင်လွယ်တယ်။ အဲဒီ auxiliary verb သို့မဟုတ် Verb to be ကို Subject ရဲ့ ရှေ့မှာ ရေးရုံပဲ။

ဥပမာ -
🔹 Not only was it raining all day at the wedding but also the band was late.
မင်္ဂလာပွဲမှာ တစ်နေ့လုံး မိုးရွာရုံသာမက တီးဝိုင်းကလည်းပဲ နောက်ကျတယ်။
🔹 Not only will they paint the outside of the house but also the inside.
သူတို့က အိမ်အပြင်ကိုသာမက အတွင်းဘက်ကိုလည်းပဲ ဆေးသုတ်လိမ့်မယ်။

auxiliary verb သို့မဟုတ် verb to be မရှိရင် do, does, did ကို သုံးရတယ်။ ဒီတော့ do/does/did + Subject + Verb (infinitive) ပုံစံပေါ့။ infinitive ဆိုတာ verb တစ်ခုရဲ့ အခြေခံပုံစံနော်။ Verb မှာ s, es, ed, ing စတာတွေ ဘာမှ မထည့်ရတဲ့ ပုံစံကို ပြောတာ။

ဒါဆို အလေးအနက်ထားချင်တဲ့အတွက် not only + verb + subject နဲ့ ရေးမယ်ဆိုပါစို့။ ခုလို ရေးနိုင်ပါတယ်။

သူက ငါ့ရဲ့မွေးနေ့ကို မေ့ခဲ့ရုံသာမကဘူး မေ့သွားတဲ့အတွက် တောင်းပန်တာတောင် မလုပ်ဘူး။
