People are getting caught up on proving Trump’s policies are superior to DeSantis’. It’s not even about policy specifics. Without Trump, we’d still be talking about why outsourcing jobs to China is essential for free market competition because it gives us cheap labor and bigger televisions. You can get a glimpse how the conversation would play out from reading Ronna McDaniels’ memos: Why minority outreach and speaking Spanish is the only way forward. We’d be debating why increasing legal immigration is preferable to amnesty. The wall would be a laughable relic from Buchanan’s run in 2000. We’d be hung up on convincing American workers that they will see more income once the rich trickle it down upon them after their tax cuts. There would be no anti war contingent within the Party aside from the wacky libertarians. And we’d be resigned to thinking taking the high road and losing the country (gracefully!) was our sole duty as an “oppositional” movement. To those who say we owe him no loyalty, I don’t think you understand how much he moved the discourse.
