In other words, Hezbollah and its weapons are tied to a religious grounding. No matter what happens, they will always find a justification to hold on to their arms. As one senior Hezbollah official once said: “Our weapons are tied to the return of the Imam Mahdi.”

Such a worldview places Hezbollah outside the conventional frameworks of negotiation and compromise.
