Speculations on Megiddo Operation

While no faction has been officially blamed, Israeli OSINT think-tank Alma wrote today on Channel 7: “We estimate that Hezbollah is responsible for the attack. There is a possibility that the operation was carried out in collaboration with Hamas and, in fact, was a joint operation.”

“If this is an action for which Hezbollah is responsible, in our assessment, Unit 133 (the successor to Unit 1800) is the immediate suspect (...) The attack in 2002 near Kibbutz Matsuva is reminiscent of the current attack” [two Palestinians were “directed by Unit 1800”]. Regarding the Galilee Forces–Lone Wolves claiming responsibility, Alma said it is “not a serious or authentic claim, it is a deception”.

“The current attack is a leap forward and, in fact, deviates greatly from the ‘rules of the game’ and ‘equations’ created vis-à-vis the Lebanese arena. A ground incursion into Israeli territory to carry out a terrorist attack has not occurred since 2006.”

Note: Alma is often untrustworthy.

Lebanese Wazzani Park was closed under enemy pressure

Lebanon's ministry of tourism closed all resorts on the Wazzani Spring with red wax, after complaints by the Israeli army and UNIFIL. The spring separates Lebanon and the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan (see map).

Although the resorts have submitted licenses since 2018, the ministry issued none. Yesterday, Amal MP Kassem Hashem called to reverse the decision: “We confirm that the will of the people of the South is stronger than the methods of some who serve the enemy, even indirectly, and want the region to be free of life, at a time when such projects have brought life back to the land that was liberated by the blood of martyrs, and when successive governments did not fulfill their obligations [to the border areas].”

🚰 Lebanese & Syrian water is essential for Israel, as the Hasbani River, Wazzani Spring, the Golan, and Galilee Basin, represent 1/3 of Israel's water resources.

This water is diverted to the Israeli settlements via the “National Water Carrier”, while the Jordan Valley south of the Sea of Galilee, and the Dead Sea, are starving. The state of Jordan is also under acute threat; Israel buys peace by providing it an annual quantity that, last year, did not exceed 50 million m³.

⋯ In March 2002 Lebanon diverted part of the Wazzani Spring to supply the village, an action that then Prime Minister of Israel, Ariel Sharon, said was a “casus belli” and could lead to war.
