โฏ Ashraf Rifi (Saudi-aligned) tweeted:
โThe restoration of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran in accordance with the pledge of non-interference can be a real start in the region, if the mullahs are convinced that the policy of imposing guardianship over states through the construction of militias and shaking stability has fallen irretrievably. (...) We hope that the date of 10/03/2023 will be the end of the Iranian adventure that ruined the region.โ
Rifi was the chief of the Internal Security Forces in 2005โ2013. He broke ranks with Hariri in 2016โousting his party from Tripoliโin a bid to win over Sunni politics. Staunchly anti-Hezbullah, he โalliedโ with Geagea in Tripoli to win the seat of (outgoing) Mikati last year. His brother got a 10-year prison sentence in absentia for spying for Israel.
