⋯ UNIFIL announces in a statement that one of its members was killed and others were injured as a result of what happened last night in Al-Aqabiyeh, south Lebanon.

The soldier is from Ireland.

UNIFIL soldiers in South Lebanon continue their UN-mandated task to spy on Lebanon on behalf of Israel.

That, while they fail to stop or report Israel's daily violations of Lebanon.

The area is outside the operation zone of the UNIFIL occupation forces – 16 ⁠km north of the Litani River. UNIFIL said that the vehicle was en route to Beirut.

According to Al-Jazeera’s report, some sources stated that the vehicle “had gotten lost”: “This is not considered to be their normal route”. The normal route (Coastal Highway) is adjacent to this road. “There was a crowd in the street, it was just after the World Cup match.”  The vehicle went through the village, likely from Sarafand.

⋯ “As a people, we take great pride in our unbroken record of peacekeeping with the United Nations. However, we must never forget the dangers that come with this work,” said the Irish president, Michael D Higgins, in a statement.

⋯ Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati: "We regret the incident that happened to the UNIFIL patrol in the south. An investigation must be conducted."

⋯ Hezbullah Liaison Chief Wafiq Safa:

"We offer our condolences after the unintentional incident that led to death of a UNIFIL soldier in Lebanon."

He added: "We were not involved, it was between the locals and the UN."

Hezbullah mourns the death of Ali Moussa Zein, who died due to blood cancer.

He was previously injured by sharpnel while fighting ISIS & Al-Qaeda in Syria, a few years ago.

The deceased soldier has been identified as Private Seán Rooney, a member of the 27 Infantry Battalion and a native of Newtwoncunningham, Co Donegal.

🇱🇧🇪🇺 Free speech in Lebanon?

Karin Kneissl, the former minister of foreign affairs of Austria (2017-2019), declared today to Sputnik:

“I experience now, as somebody living in Lebanon, we have more freedom of speech in the Middle East (...) than in the European Union.”

Ms. Kneissl lives in exile in Lebanon, after she received death threats over her Russia ties. The EU Parliament passed a resolution in May 2022 for sanctions against Kneissl and former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder if they didn't resign from the board of Russian companies. She was forced to resign from Rosneft.

Why move to Lebanon? “I couldn't move to Russia. Although I speak a little Russian. But I speak Arabic better. And I know Lebanon. I have friends who know me as Karin. And this is very important”, Kneissl said in September.

Earlier this morning, a gas canister exploded in Al-Matn, causing several injuries.

During the exercise, an advanced Namir Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) overturned.

Six foreign workers have been injured in the gas explosion.
