President Aoun received a phone call from US President Joe Biden, in which he was congratulated on the conclusion of negotiations to demarcate the southern maritime border, and was told of the United States' support for Lebanon to achieve stability.

Secretary General of Hezbullah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah: "We will wait, as long as Lebanon and Israel didn't sign on paperwork in Naqoura, we don't have a deal yet."

US pressures Lebanon to vote against Russia at UN (The Cradle)

Lebanese PM Najib Mikati has persuaded President Michel Aoun to vote against Russia’s annexation of four Ukrainian provinces at the UN on 12 ⁠October.

According to the details revealed by Al-Akhbar, the US Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea sent a written “letter of persuasion” to both Mikati and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Bouhabib. Pressure was also exerted on Lebanon's mission at the UN and the embassy in Washington.

Shea asked the Lebanese officials to “respect the past events [history] and not take a stance that contradicts them”.

⋯ This matter brings to mind what Lebanon suffered through during Israel’s 22-year occupation of the country, as well as the annexation of the Shebaa farms – a move that was in fact recognized and supported by the US.

⋯ This pressure was called out by the Russian embassy in Lebanon, which considered the actions of the US to be hypocritical, and expressed dissatisfaction with Lebanon’s treatment of Russia.

⋯ Russian diplomatic sources informed Al-Akhbar that Moscow’s political response to Lebanon will be dependent on the position Beirut takes at the UN, giving Lebanon the freedom to choose the status of their relationship.

Russia considers itself a friendly country to Lebanon but their relationship has yet to recover from the earlier vote against Russia’s military operation.
