🌲 - 🇱🇧 Apparently the Zaaytriyeh neighborhood in the Ras Roueissat area saw an altercation between a member of the municipal police and two individuals from Zaaytriyeh who are affiliated with Hezbollah, leading to a rapid and dangerous escalation.
According to our information, the two individuals assaulted the municipal police officer, prompting the parish priest of Mar Youssef, Father Rabih, to intervene in an attempt to contain the situation and calm tensions. However, matters quickly spiraled out of control, and the priest himself was shoved and insulted, forcing him to retreat into the church for protection.
The escalation did not stop there. Reports indicate that the assailants pursued the priest inside the church, threatening to kill him—an act that constitutes a blatant violation of the sanctity of religious places. Several worshippers were also attacked, and the priest was prevented from completing the prayer service, in a scene that sparked widespread shock and outrage among local residents.
What happened cannot be considered an isolated incident; rather, it represents a dangerous indicator of the erosion of state authority and the absence of the rule of law—especially when assaults reach places of worship and members of the clergy, who are supposed to be shielded from any conflict or abuse.
In light of these events, citizens are raising a legitimate question: Where is the state? Where are the security forces in protecting citizens, ensuring the freedom to practice religious rituals, and safeguarding human dignity?
The continuation of such incidents without serious accountability opens the door to further security breakdown and threatens civil peace during one of the most sensitive periods Lebanon is going through. What is required today is immediate and decisive action from the relevant authorities to put an end to these violations and to reassert the rule of law over everyone without exception.

The residents of Roueissat and Zaaytriyeh are predominantly Shia, mostly from the Zaaiter family (hence the name), which originates from Baalbek, where they still have very strong ties to the clans. These people are not good people.
Just to jog some people’s memories, these Shia pockets (around 8-9 villages) in the Christian heartland were left untouched by the Christian militias during the 1975 Lebanon War, even though they were perfectly capable of expelling its residents.
