The Blind Man


A man carrying a small red box in one hand walked slowly down the street. His old straw hat and faded garments looked as if the rain had often beaten upon them, and the sun had as many times dried them upon his person. He was not old, but he seemed feeble; and he walked in the sun, along the blistering asphalt pavement. On the opposite side of the street there were trees that threw a thick and pleasant shade: people were all walking on that side. But the man did not know, for he was blind, and moreover he was stupid.

مرد جعبه قرمزي همراهش بود و آرام آرام پايين خيابان را پشت سر مي گذاشت.كلاه حصيري كهنه و لباس هاي بي رنگ و رويش حاكي از آن بود كه انگار باران بارها آن ها را زير مشت و لگد خود گرفته بود و خورشيد هم به دفعات روي تن او آن هارا خشك كرده بود.مرد پير نبود ولي ضعيف به نظر مي آمد;در امتداد پياده روي آسفالت كه زير تابش نور خورشيد حسابي داغ شده بود,راه خود را در پيش گرفت.در آن طرف خيابان,درختان ,سايه انبوه و با صفايي را افكنده بودند.مردم,همگي در آن طرف راه مي رفتند.اما مرد اين موضوع را نمي دانست,زيرا كه نابينا بود و علاوه بر آن كودن هم بود.
