The Thar Desert, in its present arid form, is not just a geographical feature but a climatic regulator, a natural strategic buffer, and an ecological system. Ans: In strong La Niña, huge heat is released from the warm west Pacific (Indonesia region).
> This powerful upward motion (convection) pushes air into the upper troposphere.
> When that air spreads out, it overloads the subtropical westerly jet (STWJ) with extra momentum.
> The jet reacts by forming waves (Rossby ripples).
> These ripples propagate poleward and disturb the polar front jet stream (PFJS).
> That disturbance leads to blocking highs and southward push of icy winds — causing harsh winters in India.
