Teaching plural nouns and 3rd person singular in Present Simple? How to turn boring grammar into an exciting game?

Easy as ABC! Just give the children coloured pencils and sharpeners! And if the topic of the lesson is irregular plurals, then pens with caps will be great.

How to use all this in the lessons? Look at these colourful photos and happy faces of the students and you will get everything at once.

⚠️ The secret of this activity is that children need not just to find the appropriate sharpener and match, but also to "sharpen" the pencil till the necessary letter, which allows them to clearly see how the ending changes.

Next portion cards to work out have got/has got and like/likes. You can practice negative forms as well (He/She hasn't got-They haven't got; He/She doesn't like - They don't like etc).

The vocabulary used in the cards includes: toys, food, school things and clothes. There are also templates so that children could create their own cards, thus learning or consolidating the key vocabulary and facilitating the work of the teacher. They come up with the names and draw exactly those items that they must learn according to the textbook, and then discuss everything in pairs.

Refresh the β€œJobs” vocabulary using simple worksheets.

The weaker students look at the shadows of people, compare them with the words in the word box, and then write simple sentences (e.g. It is/He is/There is/I can see a policeman etc.), while the more advanced students write sentences without visual support.

When this part of the work is done, divide the children into pairs. One student describes the shadow, and the other student guesses: This person has got a bag, he has got a camera. Is it a photographer? Yes, it is.
Then they switch roles.

Family Tree Poster to refresh the key vocabulary. By describing the characters, students will remember or revise some important and useful grammar structures (has got, hasn't got/can, can't/ likes, doesn't like, etc.), refresh the use of the possessive case and related words from different topics (countries, nationalities, hobbies, preferences, personal belongings, and pets).

In addition, the poster can be used for various useful games:
- one student thinks of a character, and the other asks general questions. Then they switch roles. Here they drill questions and short answers.
- one student describes everything they can say about the character, and the other listens and guesses.A great practice for the 3rd person singular.
- based on this poster, children draw their own and tell about their families.
