Make Conditional Clauses FUN with These High-Energy Speaking Activities!
π First Conditional: Drama Queen (Chain Story Consequences)
- How it works:
- Start a crazy story: "If Maria eats the last cookie..."
- Students take turns adding consequences: "...her brother will cry. If he cries, their mom will call the police. If the police come..."
π¦Έ Second Conditional: Superpower Debates
- Assign silly superpowers ("If I could turn into a potato...").
- Students argue: "If I could teleport, Iβd steal all the pizza!"β "But if I could freeze time, Iβd stop you!"
- Vote for the most creative (or ridiculous) power.
β³ Third Conditional: Time Travel Interviews
- One student is a "time traveler" who messed up history ("If I hadnβt invented TikTok, would cats still rule the internet?").
- Classmates ask "What would have happened if...?" questions and guess the "disaster."
- Props: Use a toy microphone or silly hats for characters.
Your students will hopefully speak without realizing theyβre practicing grammar, and the sillier the activity, the more they remember!
