*HAEMOLYTIC BACTERIA* โ๏ธ๐
Haemolytic bacteria are a type of bacteria that have the ability to break down red blood cells, causing them to release their hemoglobin. This can result in the characteristic hemolysis, or destruction of red blood cells, seen on blood agar plates.
There are three main types of haemolytic bacteria: alpha-hemolytic, beta-hemolytic, and gamma-hemolytic.
1. Alpha-hemolytic bacteria: These bacteria partially break down red blood cells, resulting in a greenish discoloration around the bacterial colonies on blood agar plates. Examples of alpha-hemolytic bacteria include Streptococcus pneumoniae and some species of Viridans streptococci.
2. Beta-hemolytic bacteria: These bacteria completely break down red blood cells, resulting in a clear zone around the bacterial colonies on blood agar plates. Examples of beta-hemolytic bacteria include Streptococcus pyogenes (group A streptococcus) and Staphylococcus aureus.
3. Gamma-hemolytic bacteria: These bacteria do not have the ability to break down red blood cells, so there is no change in the appearance of the blood agar plate. Examples of gamma-hemolytic bacteria include Enterococcus faecalis and some species of Streptococcus.
Haemolytic bacteria can cause various infections in humans, including skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and bloodstream infections. Treatment typically involves antibiotics targeted against the specific bacteria causing the infection.

๐ฆ Gram Staining: A Simple Technique ๐งช
Gram Staining process, a laboratory technique /technologist used to classify bacteria as either Gram-positive or Gram-negative based on their cell wall structure.
The steps are:
1. Crystal Violet (Purple): Applied for 60 seconds to stain all cells purple.
2. Iodine (Orange): Added for 60 seconds as a mordant to fix the purple stain to the cell wall.
3.95% Ethyl Alcohol: Used for 5-10 seconds to decolorize Gram-negative bacteria, while Gram-positive bacteria retain the purple color.
4.Safranin (Pink): Applied for 45 seconds to stain Gram-negative bacteria pink, leaving Gram-positive bacteria purple.
Final result:
Gram-positive bacteria appear purple.
Gram-negative bacteria appear pink.
This method is essential for diagnosing bacterial infections.

BD VACUTAINERยฎ SYSTEM.pdf
321.3 KB
The BD Vacutainer System is a widely used blood collection system designed to simplify and improve the phlebotomy process. Here's an overview:
Key Components:
1. Vacutainer Tubes: Evacuated tubes with varying additives (e.g., EDTA, citrate, gel separator) for different laboratory tests.
2. Vacutainer Needles: Double-ended needles with a protective sleeve for safe blood collection.
3. Vacutainer Holders: Plastic or metal holders for securing the tube and needle during collection.
Features and Benefits:
1. Evacuated tubes reduce hemolysis and ensure consistent sample quality.
2. Color-coded tubes and labels facilitate easy identification and sorting.
3. Safety features like the protective sleeve and needle shield minimize exposure risks.
4. Easy-to-use design streamlines the blood collection process.
Common Applications:
1. Venous blood collection
2. Capillary blood collection
3. Blood culture collection
