SMRT engineers and technicians are currently working to repair and replace the damaged track and equipment, with efforts still ongoing. In the meantime, all Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) trains put into service today have undergone and passed comprehensive axle box functionality checks to ensure safe operations.
To ensure commuters can continue with their journeys, SMRT is operating shuttle train services between Buona Vista and Queenstown stations, as well as between Jurong East and Boon Lay stations. 80 double-deck buses have also been deployed for free bus bridging services between Buona Vista and Jurong East in both directions.

We are still unable to resume train services between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations in both directions today.
We are aiming for a partial restoration of train services on Friday, 27 September, with a single line shuttle service running every 20 minutes between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations.
Restoring train services safely and promptly is our top priority, and we will continue to provide updates as the situation progresses.

#PSA 🚨 There will be no rail service between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations tomorrow, 27 Sep.
We explored running a shuttle service between these stations to restore partial service. However, as this would slow down track repairs, we will prioritise repairing and restoring full service earlier.
SMRT is aiming to resume normal operations on Monday, 30 Sept 2024.

Here’s all you need to know about the #EWL disruption between #BoonLay and #Queenstown stations.
On 25 Sep 2024, a faulty train travelling towards the city was turned back to Ulu Pandan depot. On the way, its axle box dropped and caused the wheels of a bogie to come off the running rail and hit track equipment. This caused fractures along 1.6km of rail, and damaged three point machines, and the third rail.
Without the point machines, trains cannot be diverted onto other tracks, affecting train services on both bounds. Damages to the third rail, which is the power source for trains, also caused a power trip.
We are working hard to restore train services safely and promptly. As train service between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations is unavailable, commuters can take alternative travel options such as other rail lines, free bridging buses and regular buses between the affected stations.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

While LTA and SMRT teams continue to work hard on the EWL's recovery, we know you will still need to get around.
Besides bridging bus services, do you know that you can also take free regular buses at the free-boarding points near the affected stations? Some of these bus services will connect you to alternative rail lines so you can continue your journey.
Check out the alternative travel options for the affected EWL stations in the visuals above.

#PSA There will be no train services from #JurongEast to #BuonaVista stations on Mon, 30 Sep. We are working towards resuming train services on Tue, 1 Oct after thorough testing.
Commuter safety is our topmost priority. After completing the repair and restoration works on 28 Sep, stress and loading tests commenced to ensure safe operations.
12 new cracks that were previously not visible appeared on unreplaced rail segments. These cracks occured due to the rail segments being weakened by the damaged train.
More time is needed to replace the affected rail segments and conduct more stress testing to ensure safety before resuming train services.
We seek commuters’ understanding and patience as our engineers do their best to safely resume service as soon as possible.

🚧 Last night continued to be a flurry of activity across various work zones, as everyone toiled through the early morning hours, working towards service recovery.
🚉 All the affected rail segments between Clementi and Ulu Pandan Depot have been replaced, and we have also reinstated the third rail. The locomotive stress test, electric meggering test, and track circuit tests have also been completed.
🛠️ The locomotive stress test is crucial to ensure all affected rails are sturdy and welded well before we start the loaded train endurance test today. This means running a fully loaded train across the tracks, and sandbags were used to simulate the weight of a fully loaded train car.
⚙️ Meanwhile, our engineers, together with SMRT’s team, conducted electric meggering testing. This ensures that the third rail and running rail are electrically insulated, so we can safely turn on the traction power supply. ⚡

🌃💡 Ever wonder how Singapore's streets stay lit?
#DoYouKnow there are more than 110,000 streetlights managed by LTA? Singapore is also the first country with smart streetlights nationwide! 🇸🇬
With the remote control monitoring system, we have a more responsive and efficient maintenance regime. Lights can be monitored and controlled remotely while fault detection and alerts are automated 🚨 No more nightly patrols needed! 💡✨ There are also energy savings as streetlights can be activated to daily sunset and sunrise timings more closely.

We have commenced regulatory investigations into the disruption of train services between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations along the East-West Line (#EWL) from 25 to 30 Sep 2024.
The service disruption affected many commuters over 6 days. It also caused substantial damage to rail infrastructure that required extensive repairs.
LTA will conduct thorough investigations. To review the findings and advise on technical matters, an Expert Advisory Panel will be appointed.
The experts have expertise in rail operations and maintenance, railway engineering, rail system engineering and train design, and material science.
Investigations are expected to be completed in a few months, and LTA will release its findings to the public.
