📌 Today’s topic: Russian Citizenship
How can a foreign national obtain Russian citizenship?
There are three main pathways:
1️⃣ General procedure
First, you must obtain a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP), then a Residence Permit (RP). After 5 years of continuous residence, you may apply for Russian citizenship.
2️⃣ Simplified procedure
Depending on the applicant’s category, some of the general requirements may be waived (for example, for spouses of Russian citizens, native Russian speakers, etc.).
3️⃣ Exceptional procedure
A foreign national over 18 years of age with full legal capacity may apply for Russian citizenship if:
• they have special merits before the Russian Federation;
• due to their profession, skills, or other reasons, they are considered of special interest to Russia.

🛂 Russian Citizenship: General Procedure
For most foreigners, obtaining Russian citizenship follows the general path.
Here’s the step-by-step process:
1️⃣ Apply for a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP).
2️⃣ After 1 year with TRP, apply for a Residence Permit (RP).
3️⃣ Live in Russia with PRP for 5 continuous years.
4️⃣ Apply for Russian citizenship.
⚖️ During these 5 years, you must:
• not leave Russia for more than 6 months total per year;
• have a legal source of income;
• pass exams in Russian language, history, and law.
This is the standard path — longer, but accessible to most applicants.

Russian Citizenship: Exceptional Procedure
There’s also an exceptional path, granted on rare occasions.
A foreign national can apply directly for Russian citizenship if they:
⭐ Have special merits before Russia (science, culture, sports, state service);
⚡ Or their profession/skills are considered of particular interest for the country.
This is not common – decisions are made at the highest level of government. But it exists as a way for highly qualified professionals or unique individuals to be fast-tracked.
