Namaskar Dosto!
Read this if you haven't cleared Prelims
After preparing for this exam for 5 years and giving 3 interviews, one thing which I strongly believe is that this exam is highly unpredictable. Maybe you had immense potential to top this exam or your mains preparation was so good that you might have cleared this exam easily, but you were not allowed to sit for mains based on the prelims.
Remember UPSC takes prelims examination because of their limitation that they cannot check written copies of 6-7 lakh students. They are also aware that a lot of deserving candidates are made to sit out for a year because of this exam. But remember this randomness won't happen always, your turn would definitely come. Only thing that you need is to identify your mistakes and work upon them, have patience, detachment from what result comes, and a good mental strength.
I have a lot of my seniors and friends who could not clear the prelims examination for first 4 or even 5 attempts. But they waited for their chance, and as soon they got it, they got the best service in a single attempt. Thus, if you are further planning to give this exam, build some patience and detachment from result.
For those who are contemplating over moving out of this preparation, keep in mind that a single exam will never judge your character, it's your values that you have built will. Talk to your family and friends who can give you better advices and then take a call.
Always remember these lines of Shri Harivanshrai bachhan ji:
"असफलता एक चुनौती है, इसे स्वीकार करो, क्या कमी रह गई, देखो और सुधार करो। जब तक न सफल हो, नींद चैन को त्यागो तुम, संघर्ष का मैदान छोड़ कर मत भागो तुम। कुछ किये बिना ही जय जय कार नहीं होती, कोशिश करने वालों की कभी हार नहीं होती। "
Goodluck!

Kunmish

Namaskar Dosto!

As prelims results are out, few of you might be very happy with your result. Congratulations to you all. Now start preparing for mains in a rigorous manner by first making proper strategy for each paper and even each subject. Remember that given the unpredictability of this exam, you might not know whether you will get this opportunity again. So give your everything this time only. First month is very crucial in mains preparation. People commit a lot of mistakes in this period which they regret later even to the extent that they start thinking whether they should appear in mains or not. Common mistakes committed:
1. Starting preparation without deciding a proper strategy (sources and timeline)
2. Giving too much time to few things in the first month about which you later realise that you have given excess time there.
3. Taking first month lightly by studying for only few hours thinking that you have time further, only to realise later that covering all things now is not possible.
4. Spending too much time with your friends, thinking that they are also writing mains and thus everyone is in the same boat, only to realise later that your competition is not with your few friends, but with a lot of hardworking people out there.
So, chalk out a proper strategy and give your everything into it. It's now or never. Think in the manner that your hardwork for 60 days( I am considering only first 60 days, because you will automatically work hard in last 20 days), will give you immense happiness that all your problems ( emotional, family, financial, health, friends) will get wiped off.
Goodluck!
