Tawheed And Aqeedah Comes First

Al-Imaam Naasirud-deen Al-Albaani – rahimahullah – said:

“It is compulsory to concentrate and focus on tawheed firstly. This is the methodology of the prophets and messengers – peace be upon them –”

[Tawheed Awalan, Page 7]

Al Imaam Muhammad Aamaan bin Ali Al Jaami said:

“Therefore ‘Aqeedah comes first and comes before anything and everything comes after ‘Aqeedah.”

[Tape: Al-‘Aqeedah Awalan]

And Al-Albaani says:

and this is why I believe that the first thing which is truly obligatory upon the callers of the muslims is that they are concerned about this statement (i.e Laa ilaaha illa Allaah) and about its explanations with summarization, then (to) discuss it in detail that which this good statement necessitates!

Timestamps

0:44 You must first strive to seek knowledge in the manner of the Salaf as-Saalih, venerating it as an act of worship.

8:26 Some examples of how people today deviate from the methodology of the Salaf as-Saalih:

• Specifying a timeline for seeking knowledge

• Taking knowledge all at once

• Specifying taking knowledge only from the major Scholars

• Taking shortcuts on the path of seeking knowledge

• Expecting the journey to be made easy for them

15:50 Even the prophets (عليهم السلام) had to adhere to the etiquettes of seeking knowledge.

16:17 Seek permission from the teacher before joining or dropping out of a class or markaz, and be patient with the teacher.

16:52 Attend lessons that are at your level and progress in an orderly manner.

19:31 Organize your schedule and take what you can bear.

21:38 Prioritize the memorization of the Quran. However, this does not imply that you should focus solely on memorizing the Quran, as that advice is intended for young children.

28:45 From the etiquettes is to ask your teacher to determine the curriculum that is most suitable for you. Refrain from applying general advice from scholars to your situation, as your teacher understands your specific circumstances best.

32:04 Sometimes a person seeks knowledge based on the curriculum available to them in their land.

33:48 Combine between both durūs al-'āmmah (general classes) and durūs al-khāṣṣah (specific classes from your curriculum).

35:44 The importance of consistency and completing the classes upon sincerity.

38:15 Make attending live lessons with the teacher your priority, and review supplementary materials after class to understand the book from different angles.

39:22 Memorizing the mutūn of each science is encouraged, though not mandatory. Some scholars recommend prioritizing the memorization of the Quran and Hadith.

43:36 The importance of establishing a strong foundation before progressing to the memorization of the Qira’aat.

44:29 Advice to the one who feels as though they are not benefitting from the classes they attend.

46:27 Do not get attached to titles and give emphasis to attending the circles of knowledge.

49:27 Do not consider the suggested curriculum of a scholar to be binding to the extent that you avoid other classes.

53:41 Concluding remarks:

• The significance of learning the etiquettes of seeking knowledge and revising knowledge amongst each other.

• Do not resemble seeking Islamic knowledge to earning credits at a university.
