Do not neglect the rights of your family while trying to draw closer to Allāh.

"سمعت سيدي عليا الخواص (رحمه الله) يقول: 'اسع على عيالك ليلا ونهارا ولو سماك الناس دنيويا فإنه خير من أن يسموك صالحا وأنت تأكل صدقاتهم وأوساخهم، وناظر لما في أيديهم، وكل من لم يعطك شيئا تصير تكرهه، مع أن تلك الكراهة من غير حق.'" [العهود المحمدية - ص ٣٣٨]

The erudite sage and Imām ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Shaʿrānī (ra) narrates: "I heard my spiritual master ʿAlī al-Khawwās (d.949 AH) (may Allāh have mercy on him) say:

'Exert yourself for your family day and night, even if people call you worldly. For indeed it is better than them calling you pious while you eat their ṣadaqāt (charity) and the filth (of their wealth) while glancing upon their wealth, such that when one does not give you something, you begin to hate them, even though that hatred is unjust.'"

Shaykh Muḥammad Aqīl (RA) Read the Entire Sunan Abī Dāwūd to Shaykh Zakarīyyā (RA)

It is mentioned in al-Ijāzāt al-Hindiyyah that Shaykh Muḥammad Aqīl read only half of Sunan Abī Dāwūd to his Shaykh, ʿAllāmah Zakarīyyā (raḥimahu’Llāh). However, our beloved Shaykh, Musnid, Muḥammad Abu Bakr Daniel (may Allah preserve him), confirmed that he in fact read the full work. Upon reviewing the Shaykh Aqīl’s own commentary, al-Durr al-Manḍūd—a sharḥ on Sunan Abī Dāwūd—it is clear that Shaykh himself affirms he completed the full reading. He explicitly states:

The situation unfolded as follows: Lāmiʿ al-Darārī, which Ḥaḍrat Shaykh used to dictate to this humble one (aḥqar), consumed a considerable portion of Ḥaḍrat’s daily time. The drafting of its final volume was completed that very year—the same year I was assigned to teach Sunan Abī Dāwūd for the first time, and the responsibility of teaching it was given to me.

Once the drafting was completed, Ḥaḍrat Shaykh found some time free. He then said to me: “My copy of Abū Dāwūd, from which I used to teach, contains my marginal notes and interlinear annotations. I feel inclined to explain to you the meanings of these, many of which are in the form of symbols or are concise and need elaboration.”

I humbly responded: “Rather than only understanding your annotations, I would prefer to study the entire book with you formally.”

Ḥaḍrat accepted this request. From then on, each day Ḥaḍrat taught me as much as I would teach at the madrasah, and by the end of the year, by the grace of Allah, the book was completed.

On the final day of the academic year, a substantial portion of the lesson still remained—the entire Kitāb al-Adab was left. It was a winter night. The night before the morning when the book was to be completed, I read the entire Kitāb al-Adab to Ḥaḍrat Shaykh after ʿIshāʾ until midnight, and it was thus completed.

The other teachers had already finished their syllabus. It was likely the 29th or 30th of Rajab. In the morning, I began the final lesson of the book in the first period, and by the end of the fourth period, I completed it.

After completing the lesson, I went to Ḥaḍrat’s service. He praised me, gave me duʿās such as “Well done” and “Jazākallāh.” At that time, Ḥaḍrat had already arrived at the dining mat, and I joined him for the meal. Eating together was already a regular practice.

It seemed as if during this entire time, Ḥaḍrat’s full attention remained on my lessons.

May Allah illuminate his grave, make Paradise his abode, and unite us with him.

Alhamdu lillāh, after an absence of over two years since my last visit, I will be returning to the city of my birth -London- on May 24, 2025 for the occasion of Bukhārī Khatm at Jamia al-Rawda.

It is my intention to revive the tradition of sharing some musalsalāt (pattern-chain) narrations in the khatm program, and I have already informed the organizers of this.

It was the noble practice of the renowned muḥaddith Shaykh Muḥammad Zakarīyyā ibn Muḥammad Yaḥyá al-Kāndahlawī that upon the completion of the Sahīh, he would ensure that those graduating would also bear from him:

1) The abridgement of Al-Awāʾil al-Sunbulīyyah. A collection of the first narration from approximately 40 different hadīth collections.

2) The three treatises of Shāh Walī Allāh al-Dehlawī including Al-Fadl al-Mūbīn fi ‘l-Musalsal min Hadīth al-Nabīy al-Amīn

As for the first collection, I have been informed by many of his direct students, that he would cover this work to display to the students that the field of hadīth is expansive and that they should not stop their study, simply because they have studied the canonical works.

As for the second collection, I was informed by his students that he would tell them: "I like to share these musalsal narrations, as they not only contain the verbal transmission of a prophetic tradition, but many of them require the reenactment of a practice along with the verbal tradition. In this way, we bring into practice the sunnah."

Shaykh Muḥammad Zakarīyyā's custom of completing these works was soon recognized by the graduates of other Islamic seminaries, and before long, students from all over India would travel to Saharanpur to attend the Bukhārī khatm. They recognized that the traditions that shaykh was sharing, were not obtainable anywhere else.

After Shaykh Muḥammad Zakarīyyā migrated to the Holy Lands and retired from teaching in Saharanpur, this tradition was carried on by his loyal student Shaykhunā al-Muḥaddith Muh‌ammad Yūnus al-Jaunpūrī  (d.2017), and then after his passing by the late Shaykhunā Muḥammad ʿĀqil
al-Maẓāhirī (ra).

In the following clip, we can see Shaykhunā Muḥammad ʿĀqil al-Maẓāhirī supervising the recital of the Musalsalāt at Maẓāhir al-ʿUloom in Saharanpur a few months before his passing away.

May Allāh ﷻ enable us to take up the baton and continue the preservation of the sunnah worldwide.

P.S. On May 26 which is a bank holiday, we will cover al-Shamā'il al-Muḥammadiyya
