As you can see we're about to change our clocks again. When that happens I personally have a couple of other routines I also try to do at the same time, just as a way to remember some things that I don't need to do very often, but do need to get done around the house.
Here's what you can do when you also change your clocks:
• Air and turn your mattresses
• Clean drapes and curtains, and replace lighter or heavier ones, depending on the season
• Wash rugs and clean carpets
• Do a deeper clean of your basement, garage and/or attic
• Take the time to make this your seasonal cleaning weekend, such as for spring cleaning or fall cleaning
• Rotate your wardrobe for new season, either warmer clothes in the fall or cooler clothes in the spring. Use this as an opportunity to also declutter clothes you no longer like, fit into, or are stained or damaged.
• Make sure your supplies are up to date in your first aid kit (check this first aid kit checklist for more details) and in your emergency preparedness kit (see emergency supply list for more details)
• Check your smoke detectors and at least once a year change the batteries in them, whether you think the batteries need to be changed or not
• Check your flashlights you keep on each floor of your home to make sure batteries work in case of loss of power
• Check fire extinguisher in kitchen and other locations of house to confirm they are in good working order
• Update your family's fire escape plans and practice a family fire drill
The reason that these set dates are such a good time to do these chores is because it comes during a change of seasons, when several things need to be done around your house.
Further, these types of routine things that don't occur at least monthly can be difficult to remember in general, and also to remember when you did it last. A set time every year can help jog your memory, making the task easier for you to recall.
So this year try doing some of these additional steps when you are going around to each room of your house (and don't forget your car!) changing your clocks.

Are You Being Present with Your Child? These 10 Obstacles Could Be Getting in the Way
Every caring parent knows that 'being present' and in the moment with your child, setting aside devices and distractions, is what’s needed for children to thrive – and what’s needed for a happy, harmonious home. But, the reality is that it's much easier said…
Girls’ much-higher rate of depression than boys is closely linked to the greater time they spend on social media, and online bullying and poor sleep are the main culprits for their low mood, new research reveals.
As many as three-quarters of 14-year-old girls who suffer from depression also have low self-esteem, are unhappy with how they look and sleep for seven hours or less each night, the study found.

Controlling our tongues around our children.
There are countless Hadiths and ayahs in the Quran that talk about the importance of choosing good words and remaining conscious of ones speech.
However for some reason many parents are guilty of letting their tongues loose around their children.
Allah Almighty said:
*Speak good words to people *(2:83).
Another hadith and verse:
“A man used to have two or three names by which he was called. Perhaps he hated one of them, so Allah revealed the verse:
“Do not insult each other with offensive nicknames.” (49:11)

🧮15 Tips to Raising Great Children
Children are easily influenced by their surroundings. These days, it is extremely difficult to expose our children to an ideal Islamic environment given the influences from media, friends and even other members of the family.
With television, radio, Internet and forms of media mostly touting un-Islamic values, it is up to parents and adults close to the children to set the correct example.
It is impossible to shield our children from all the negative forces that can shape their minds and, ultimately, their behavior.
However, by our own example and showing them better options, we can set them on the true path, which is to obey the commandments of Allah Ta'ala and our Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him).
Here are some tips you may want to follow in helping your children grow up with Islamic values.
*1️⃣Start by teaching them the importance of Worshipping only Allah* : The best thing any Muslim parent could ever teach their children is to emphasize, from the day they can comprehend, that Allah (Subhaanahu WaTa'ala) is One and no one is worthy of worship except Allah. This is the fundamental message of our Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and it is our key to Paradise.
*2️⃣Treat them kindly* : Kindness begets kindness. If we were kind to our children, they in turn would show kindness to others. Our Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was the best example in being kind to children.
*3️⃣Teach them examples of Muslim heroes* :Instead of Batman or Superman, tell them about real heroes such as Abu Bakr, Umar ibn Khattab, Othman bin Affan, Ali bin Abi Talib and others. Tell them how Muslim leaders brought a real peaceful change in the world and won the hearts of Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
*4️⃣Let children sit with adults* : It is preferable for children to be among adults, especially when listening to Islamic lectures. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) would often put children in the front row when he spoke to the people.
*5️⃣Make them feel important* : Consult them in family matters. Let them feel they are important members of the family and have a part to play in the growth and well being of the family.
*6️⃣Go out as a family* : Take family trips rather than allowing your children to always go out only with their friends. Let your children be around family and friends from whom you want them to pick up their values. Always remember that your children will become who they are around with most of the time. So, watch their company and above all give them YOUR company.
